nitinbwj Posted August 1, 2022 Posted August 1, 2022 Ind can still make the podium finish. It would have been heartbreak had they lost which they almost did.

bharathh Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Been a lukewarm games for India so far. Without shooting - which is equivalent to cycling and swimming - not really possible to keep up in the top 5. Women's TT was a disappointment. So was Joshna Chinappa in squash. Boxing has been lukewarm. Some of our men look past it - like Shiva Thapa. On the other hand, weightlifting has punched above its weight in delivering medals. So far only 2 lifters haven't medalled although the quantum of lifting is far behind world-class standards. Asian games next year is a good one to look forward to. Badminton looks dominant and the men's TT team has done well so far. Need fresh blood in the team. Can't believe Sharath Kamal is 40! Hockey has been lukewarm (women are not scoring enough and the men seem to continue to fall apart in the last couple of quarters). Unexpected medals in Judo and soon Lawn Bowls are nice - but we are lacking superiority in one major event. Cycling, Swimming, Gymanstics and soon Athletics are the main medal spinners. We seem to be okayish only at one. Still - it is heartening to see the performances from the athletes. For once - all have sung praises for the support they are getting from the govt and the NGOs. Good to see that things are looking up for sportspeople in India. It will be interesting to see how far Athletics has come since the Olympics last yr. Wrestling is probably going to be our best bet to make it to the top 5.

I think we can still top the group and avoid Aussies in SFs. Hockey rules and the way it is played currently - along with officiating - is slanted against teams like India and Pakistan. We discussed it at length with @Gollum the last Olympics. Considering that a bronze was like gold. beating either one of Nzl or Australia won't be easy for this reason later on. bharathh Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Punam Yadav crashes out in Weightlifting after remaining in second position after the snatch event. Couldn't make even one of her clean and jerk lifts. Feel for her - but felt that she didn't look like she was completely fit for the event. Even though she made her Snatch lifts - she looked a little out of it. She was a 2 time medallist at the CG previously at a lower weight category (Gold and Silver). Anyways kudos for her contributions so far. Pity she couldn't go out with a medal. Heartbreaking for sure. 3rd weightlifter not to medal. rollingstoned 1
nitinbwj Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 (edited) Just like Indian Hockey Men's team wasting a 3 goal advantage yesterday, the Women Lawn Bowl team has wasted a golden chance of creating history.. they were ahead 8-2 after 5 end ( whatever that means ) and are now trailing 8-10. No points at all after 5th.. against SA aunties. Edited August 2, 2022 by nitinbwj

Dropped the bar without the buzzer going off. Earlier 2 attempts were also deemed invalid due to soft elbow position.
bharathh Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Gold in lawn bowls for India. So proud of the ladies that won it.. It was quite enjoyable to watch. A mix of bowling and curling. Sandz 1

Poor reaction from the Indian federation. She is a multiple medal winner - deserves some empathy. nitinbwj and rollingstoned 2
Sandz Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Haven't watched any games today but kudos to the lawn bowls team for winning gold! Must have been an amazing performance. Watching table tennis now, while Singapore brought in a 16 year old talent, India is still carrying a 40 year old :o, he must have some connections to keep getting selected, it can't be that India can't find a single youngster to take his place
LordPrabhzy Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 https://www.reuters.com/lifestyle/sports/india-lobbies-shooting-wrestling-victoria-2026-commonwealth-games-2022-07-27/ Gora nations are hellbent on removing sports which India traditionally dominates in... First Shooting in 2022 and now Wrestling in 2026. Racist scum. If games are ever held in India again, Cycling and swimming events should be heavily curtailed in numbers if not being removed all together if its all come down to countries picking and choosing which sports to have. Both these events are favouring England and Australians. lets give them a taste of their own medicine. rollingstoned 1
