In a similar way, if I make an Aus XI, it would be :-

Hayden

Langer

Ponting

Smith

Border(c)

S Waugh

Gilchrist (wkt)

Cummins

Warne

Lillee

McGrath

Now, that is a team with all boxes ticked.

Even their batting lineup is quite insane. You can go all the way till Gilchrist at 7.

In Indian batting lineup, you have to use Pant and Dev at 6 and 7 respectively.

This support argument is just a means to hype up cricketers who weren’t as good as their peers.

Hadlee barely had support but was an absolute legend and garnered peer aclaim.
Shaheen has a sub 25 average for pakistan    Without any real support , its not like hed start averaging 15 with wasim at the other end. I love the guy but he still has work to do to be that good.

murali had an amazing record because he was that good, did not need support, sinply put srinath and kumble just werent as great.

Hadlee baccha played in the greenest tracks on earth where the pitch is greener than the agricultural fields of punjab.

It matters.

Look at Indian bowlers stats post 2015 after it make a powerful bowling unit. Even ishant who was laughed at before managed to average 22 for 4 years whilst playing with a better attack.

It matters. Bowling works as a team.

Some bowlers excelbif they operate as a lead bowler. Some are just better in a support role.
