You can be a patriotic, truthful person and yet be hard to get along at same time. Human relationships are very complex, it is well documented that Gambhir has said or done following -

1. Don't worship Tendulkar, soldiers are more important to country than sportsperson (what does that even means to begin with? I know many soldiers who treat it just like any paid job )

2. Dhoni is given more credit than he deserves for WC2011 win

3. His on camera spat with Kohli

4. His relationship with foreign players

 

Truth of the matter is Gambhir is an ackward no chill person, he drags matter and doesn't move on, holds grudges and is always intense and serious.

 

He has a personality flaw, in workplace or human relationship his type of person is a disaster. I have seen many professionals who are super hard working, but are disliked by everyone. No matter how skillful you are, if you don't know how to network and build relationships you wont succeed. 

 

Afridi is a moron, he is mediocre in every respect, but he could be much better in building relationships.

 

Remember skills can be learnt or taught, it's very hard to change person's attitude. Gambhir makes every situation tense.

 

Listen to it again and you take off your hatred glasses off too. Afridi is being fake and lying when he says he gets messages from fans from India and he has not fought with anyone in the Indian team. He then mentions SM and Gautam and Harbhajan+Vikrant interrupts him with mentioning Gautam and the same time and by that time Afridi utters that Gautam is not liked by the entire Indian  team. At which point there is a huge laugh on that comment and that bastard Gupta is seen still continue to laugh long later. 
 

Gautam is crude and probably abrupt with all and speaks his mind. His IPL predictions  and cricket acumen and gyaan are laughable but still no Indian fan doesn’t like him because he is patriotic and works towards social causes. He contributed for martyr’s kids’ education. Somebody laughs at him for petty reasons that too an enemy combatant like Afridi, nobody would take it lying down.

With all this ethnic focus in the thread,
Made made me realize how we always had 30-40% Punjabis in the Indian team when we won the worldcups.  

 

Some noteable punjabis in cricket:

Kapil Dev (played for Haryana but parents are both from Punjab)
Gambhir
Kohli
Dhawan( dad has roots inPunjab and Dhawan tries to act Punjabi, maybe get 1/2 a point)
Bumrah ( born in Gujarat but roots in Punjab)
Sidhu
Harbhajan
Yuvraj
Mohinder Amarnath
Bedi (played for Delhi but roots in Punjab)
Gill (upcoming prospect)

That's not a bad list considering a few ATG in that list

 

Notable mentions : BS Sandhu, Yashpal Sharma, Madan Lal, Lala Amarnath.

1983 WC Finals Team had 5 players in the Final of Punjabi roots: Kapil, Mohinder Amarnath, Yashpal Sharma, Madan Lal, Sandhu

2007 T20 WC had 3 Punjabi ethnic players in Gambhir, Yuvi, Harbhajan

2011 WC team had 4 players of Punjabi background in Gambhir, Kohli, Yuvi, Harbhajan
