Lack of fielding basics

Asia cup revealed the gross indiscipline, lack of common sense in the fielding department. India has far too many fielders to be hidden.  One live wire fielder can completely change the dynamics. Sadly we had none. Poor back up, poor throw at the stumps (even with 3 stumps to aim at), poor awareness of which batsman to target, Who is our fielding coach? What is he doing? It was high school level stuff. 

 

In Australia it will look even worse given the size of the ground. You cannot afford to have lazy slow runners. If Jadeja doesn't play Indian fielding will look even more pathetic.

Jadeja and Pandya are the only two who can field.

Bad basics : 

Chahal is bad and Bhuvi is not far behind along with Arshdeep. Things will get worse with Bumrah coming back.

 

Bad fitness : Rohit Sharma, he is probably carrying 12 kgs extra than his ideal weight.

It's criminal that the fielding is as appalling. I had high hopes a decade ago that IPL franchise professionalism will raise the fielding standards even in the Indian team. And for a while, it might have, but seems to be regressing again.

 

And at this level, a coach can do only so much if the players are not motivated to give effort.
