Obviously KS Bharat will make his debut now as he is with the team for a while.

Second Wk should be Kishan & a no brainer.

If it were up to me...

Kishan(wk)

Rohit

Gill

Kohli/Gujara

Iyer

Jaddu

Ashwin

Kuly

Siraj

Bumrah

Great post, to negate losing Pant, I would seriously get Kishan in the team as opener.

It has multiple rippling effects, you get an opener that doesnt go tuk tuk and can accelerate, you remove KL and you increase and maintain the batting depth.

India is one team that when hit with injuries finds good replacements. Kishan is the answer here. Lets take a risk.

he is a safe keeper, and a compact batter - does not have a lot of shots, but organized technique and clear head.

Im going with Kishan as keeper.

It would be a sensational strategic move and the best candidate to negate losing Pant.

my 1st preference is kishan; after that bharat & wadkar. but be sure that kishan will drop some valuable chances

opening and keeping wickets simultaneously has almost never been done in tests because of how exhausting it is.

if kishan opens, then someone else (maybe kohli) should keep wicket part-time and kishan can keep for the rest of the time.

assuming everyone is fit, and the tracks are turners, we need players who can handle spin:

rohit (c) --> don't want him, but one senior is needed. and rohit is strong at home.

jaiswal [agarwal as back-up]

s. iyer

kishan (wk)

gill [sarfaraz as back-up; I would prefer the opposite, but throwing sarfaraz directly in deep end is problematic]

sundar

jaddu [axar as back-up]

asswin

kuldeep

bumrah

prasidh/siraj

batting till 9, and 6 bowling options + part-time of iyer.

Yeah that is a valid point.  Either way a spin basher is what we need.  Bharath is decent as well but Kishan is closest to what we have with Pant.

playing 2 keepers is fine. bharath is not a mug with the bat - he would contribute more than kela and brat

Bharat as replacement of Pant, Kishan isn't a test class keeper, will cost us a lot with the gloves, also horrible idea to try him as an opener.

Sadly, this should be Kohli's last chance to redeem himself in test cricket, if he fails here he needs to go back to domestics.

Gill

Rohit

Pujara

Kohli
Iyer
Bharat
Jadeja

Ashwin
Kuldeep

Siraj
Umesh / Bumrah (if available)

I fear the worst here, this could be the end of India's home streak after 10 long years.

Sundar should be there in the squad and play ahead of Kuldeep if our batting doesn't perform in the first test
