Rahane, Rahul, Pujara and even Kohli.. its a miracle that our test team kept doing well with these 4.. 2 down.. 2 more to go.. we will become formidable once these guys go out.. without Pant and even if lower order contributions come down, I am sure new talent will do many times better.

We need to get rid of one size fits all mentality with team selection..and maintain the horses for courses policy.

We usually adapt easy approach where we tend to select the same set of players across all 3 formats and conditions, irrespective of whether they're suited or not.

 

In ideal world, with the talent we have at our disposal, we can easily use the players at their strongest format and conditions. Gill has shown he is excellent against high pace and bounce, not so much against spin and swing though. Jaiswal seems better against spin, bounce and pace, have to see him in swinging conditions though. Shaw is good against spin and high pace, not so much against bounce and swing.

Ofcourse, this will require selectors to do more hard work and choose right players, plus it will also be an end of hero worship culture in our country.

shaw is not really good vs anything except on the flattest of tracks against weak bowlers.
