Nikhil_cric Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 Wood on to get this ball damaged and get a new one?
putrevus Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 England bowlers should be thanking umpires for changing the ball. This is not the first time they have successfully changed the ball for them.
Nikhil_cric Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 Unless a ball has been deliberately tampered with, it should not be changed. If it has been naturally bent out of shape thanks to pitch or the batsmen hitting it out of shape, bowling sides should not be allowed to change it.
SM2907 Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 With the rate of scoring these days and reduced over rate, the new ball should be made available after 60 overs. Secondly the bowling team can continue to decide every over after the 60th if they would bowl it with the new one or the old one till the 80th over post which it has to be the new one.

Umpires and ICC need to document every ball change and its reasons.

SM2907 Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 Labuschagne has had a very poor series by his standards

Sandz Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 Aussies falling like nine pins this morning! need a solid partnership otherwise this will be over by lunch time

They use a hoop but that's stupid. In certain conditions, batsmen will hit the ball put of shape to ensure the ball doesn't move. Why should batters be penalized for successfully executing that. And to top it off, the umpires gave them a significantly newer ball Also there is a concerted effort to change the ball by England. Even Athers mentioned it yesterday . Jimmy told Stokes " We need to get rid of that one"
putrevus Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 Bowling early in the day vs late evening makes so much difference in England. India got screwed in 2019 semifinals when it was forced to bat under heavy conditions the next day.

Battting team also needs to have a say once they see the changed ball is swinging, they should be able to ask it to be changed also.

putrevus Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 Who decides the changed ball is of right age including wear and tear? This is such inexact science. Sandz 1

putrevus Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 Johnny and Root chased down 373 against us, if I am not wrong I remember Bumrah asking for the ball to be changed but umpires never did change it.
