The East Asian quality is really average tbh. East Asians have won grand slams in women's singles, Nishikori USO finalist in 2014, then many deep runs by others, heck a Korean kid stopped Nole in AO which even Nadal has never managed. And East Asian origin players representing western countries are doing well. No comparison really. If they are average, we are 500 m below the ground. Lone Wolf 1

Maybe so - but the quality of tennis at the Asian games is distinctly average. I don't think Li Na is playing here - so no comparison. Men's esp is pretty poor. India being poor doesn't mean much for Asian tennis. I've played semi-pro in the US back in the day - so giving my input based on my experience.
bharathh Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 Swapnil Kusale 15 shots away from a gold in 50m 3 positions. On top after 2 positions (kneeling and prone).
bharathh Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 One set all in the Mixed doubles semi. Ten pt tie-break to decide the winner. Cmon Bopanna!
bharathh Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 Awesome .. through to the final. Number 1
bharathh Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 (edited) Damn. Swapnil blows a healthy lead to come fourth allowing the Chinese to win :(. Aiswary Tomar comes from nowhere to win silver. Should have been a confirmed Gold. Pity. Better luck next time Swapnil. Edited September 29, 2023 by bharathh Number 1
bharathh Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 Scored a shocking 7.6 to lose his lead completely
Number Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 Can we touch 20 golds this time ? Shooting has given a lot of hope.
Gollum Posted September 29, 2023 Author Posted September 29, 2023 We'll touch 20 I think...men's hockey, men's cricket, kabaddi (x2), athletics , boxing+wrestling, chess....not confident about gold in weightlifting.
bharathh Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 Always surprised to see why we don't have any gymnasts. With a proud tradition of sports like malkhambh it is strange that we are not able to tap into this for gymnastics. I suppose they are very different.

bharathh Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 Men's badminton team vs Nepal in the QF. Easy path to the SF for the men. Hope they continue their amazing form of late to win gold.
bharathh Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 Will play either Indonesia/S Korea in the semis.
Norman Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 Our primary objective was to finish in the top 4 only behind China, Japan and Korea so we're well on track for that. Those three countries are probably at a different level to us in all parameters so not much of a shame there.. But we have no business finishing below the likes of Uzbekistan, Iran , Indonesia, Taiwan etc ..
Norman Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 Hope we close the gap between us and the top 3 East Asian giants in the coming two decades. Still a long long way to go though...
