2022 Asian Games, Hangzhou (23rd September to 8th October, 2023)

Asian Champions Trophy (Hockey) starting in Chennai next week. I hope to visit the city for a couple of games, maybe Indo-Pak group game and then the final and 3rd place match. Wanted to attend the World Cup last year at Kalinga but because of some professional commitments, couldn't.

Encourage all ICFers to attend these non-cricket events if venue is in your city or nearby. I hope to attend a few in Bengaluru/Hyderabad as well, if the chance presents itself. Those based in Delhi, better chance since more events are hosted there.

Both semis on 11th, final and 3rd place game on 12th. Last edition we got hammered by Japan in SF, then beat Pak to get bronze.

Our women's hockey team had a disappointing campaign in Europe, losing 3/3 games.......against Germany (twice, 1-4 and 0-2 ) and China (once, 2-3).

Men are in Spain, scheduled to face Netherlands, England and Spain. 4 nation cup starts tomorrow with India vs Spain!!!! Remember we are coached by South African Craig Fulton now, Paddy Upton (cricket fans must be familiar) is our mental conditioning coach.

Badminton, TT, archery, judo etc. in Asian Games will be almost Olympics level, maybe 90% of that in terms of field strength.

Generally track&field, swimming, cycling, boxing, wrestling had lesser competition but this time Russian Bear is in the mix. Good for us in terms of exposure to top level competition, would have loved to see Aus/NZ as well in this. Anyway those two Oceanic countries are in many Asian groups, Aus even qualified for FIFA WC from Asian zone.

Wrestling will be very high standard given Russia Iran Japan China India will be competing... Indian football sadly has light years to go to become top 25 side, sad to say, I don't see it happening either...I couldn't share the level of excitement as some icfers had coming off from recent close wins against a couple of middle Eastern teams..

Yeah, also the Central Asian 'stans', Mongolia are very good in wrestling, both men and women.

Sadly I agree with you. But yeah there are a few ICFers who follow the Blue Tigers closely and are quite optimistic, will be great to learn from them if our team is allowed to participate.

Gukesh recently became the youngest player to achieve 2750 elo...future world champion hopefully, fingers crossed. I remember studying his games, he plays king Indian attack a lot with white... although these guys have superb memory and other required skills, would be excellent in every aspect and every opening...

Hate boxing in these events because scoring system always appears to be so dodgy, and heavy bias towards host participants. Wrestling too is a fast paced combat sport but so easy even for casual viewers to follow the scoring.

Right...I would highly recommend not to eat your meal while watching Indian player boxing or wrestling, you may choke on your food. :D

Yep seems the Govt had to step in. India will be sending both the men's and women's team to the games

Aman Sehrawat, Asian games selection for India in Ravi dahiyas category 57kg Free style, is an amazing story... the boy was 11 when he was orphaned, was taken care of by his uncle....at age 18-19 he became Asian champion and world U-23 champion... sharing the finals of both....got to admire haryana and specially haryana-delhi jats for their love and dedication in wrestling.... Most of these best wrestlers in all 18 categories ( and their 2nd and 3rd best players as well in many cases) are from haryana (and some Delhi but harayana-background)
