Need to bring Foreign coaches preferably Korean.. Indian coaches ain't gonna cut it. Recurve is always the real deal.. We need serious improvement. Atanu Das has a rich history in choking.

Wrestling we have always been good in freestyle. Not in Greco-Roman. That is almost exclusively the purview of Iran and the central asian countries. Japan is the only country that has been able to break in here - even in the Olympics. Freestyle starts tomorrow. Weightlifting we have done well in the Commonwealth games - rarely at the world level. We have had bright spots like Karnam Malleswari or Mirabai Chanu - but we are not a traditional power at all here.

Where we have been very strong in the last 20 years but are always unable to deliver at the Olympics is in Shooting and Archery (Recurve). Even Archery we win world championship stages but never the final medal. The only person to do so was Deepika Kumari. Even she was not unable to do anything at the Olympics though. Unable to handle pressure. Given that even a small mistake can cost you a medal the error for margin is infinitesimal. Sadly we have not been able to establish ourselves in world events like the Olympics both sports. Traditionally of course we were strong at Hockey. Getting resurgence now. Last 10 yrs have been great for men and women. Boxing - esp on the women's side - we have been doing really well. However, again plagued by inconsistency and the vagaries of the scoring system. Freestyle wrestling - we dominate at the Commonwealth level (even in Greco-Roman) - and were really doing consistenly well over the past 20 yrs - but seeing a decline now. Hopefully will recover before the Olympics. Sushil Kumar our best wrestler in my memory was truly a world champ - unfortunately lost in a very close final at the Olympics in London. Then became a goonda. Vinesh Phogat was also considered to be world class but always underperformed. Current lot are good but not great. Not certainties for medals IMO esp at the world level. The state of the juniors is good though as we have a healthy pipeline of wrestlers performing well at Jr World Championships Athletics has improved by leaps and bounds over the last 10 yrs. We have consistent top 10 athletes in field events esp at the World Championships. Track 400m - esp relay has been awesome. Avinash Sable is becoming a name to watch out for in the middle distances. Parul Chaudary also looks exciting from this Asian games. However, still a long way to go till we can consistenly compete with the best. Only person atm is Neeraj Chopra and hopefully soon Jena in Javelin. Badminton is hit or miss - although our mens team has become awesome over the past few years. Women unfortunately it's always one person holding the torch. When Saina Nehwal faded we had Sindhu going strong. Don't see another in the works atm. Doubles is another area we are weak at. Tennis - We had some good names but nobody who really dominated. Good at the Asian and Commonwealth level - but noone who really shone at the World level. Mostly doubles players who mostly won with players from other countries. Unfortunately we we not able to build despite having names like Bhupati, Paes and Bopanna not to mention Sania Mirza. A few field goals also didn't go in .. unlucky. Don't know enough about hockey to say more. Attackers have been a bit loose in the Korean D IMO. Whatever limited chances they have got though they seem to have got a PC or scored a goal.
