The more I see Boult and NZ bowl. The more I feel Kohli and Shastri screwed up  that Semifinal by not sending Pant Up the order to disrupt their bowling.

 

That match was there to be won and it still bothers me.

Even after top order collapse they are going great guns. Boult with new ball is amazing. But getting brutalized with old ball.  Stokes is in the zone.

That rain and reserve day benefitted them. Don't think it would have swung as much if we batted the same day. 

Their spinners outbowled Chahal by a big margin and our new ball bowlers didn't do the damage they should have.

After playing on these pitches when they play on some of the Indian surfaces they may not find themselves to be fluent although guys liek Buttler are very much familiar with Indian pitches.

yes it did hurt us and benefit them but still feel like they needed to save either Kohli or Rohit for later.

 

DK was going to be useless anywhere why not ask him to pinch hit with license to go after bowling along with Pant.

 

Dravid did the same in T20 semis against England. Pant could have been given license to hit there also.

Santner/Sodhi not playing is a huge dent. They have nobody to control middle overs. Seamers can do their job at death and opening overs. Expecting them to share the load during middle overs is too much. England is cashing in

MSD at 4 DK at 7 would have been better. Collapse could have been averted. DK would be a lot comfortable with lesser pressure

Playing so many makeshift batsmen was of no use when it mattered. They all folded when the pressure was on.

DK was going to flop at number 7.  Didn't we see against Pakistan , he cannot be trusted to score even one run under pressure. Only saving grace is he scored some runs as opener in tests.So opening might have worked.

We had a big mo problem at that time. We have done well to solve it now albeit a bit late but the top 3 we had then were at the peak of their powers.while both Hitman and Kohli are a shadow of what they were then now.

I won't read too much into this brutality of England. It is a perfect road. NZ's problem is they only have Rachin and Glen Philips as spin option. Actually Glen is not bad with 5 overs 29 runs

It's rubbish bowling. They had Boult and nothing else. Their best bowler after Boult and Henry is Milne but he's injured. 

 

Their off spin allrounder Bracewell is injured so Ravindra.

 

Ferguson has declined a lot in the last 4 years and Jamieson getting hit as well.  They have no options in pace whatsoever.  Tim Southee looked better than these guys. 

 

They have to look to go batting heavy and strike all the way through and look to control the rate with bowlers like Santner and part timers. 

 

Williamson is a nostalgic pick.

So true, now problem is there is no one bankable batsman in this team.

 

England has Stokes, Aussies have Smith. You need such player who will hold one end up and still be force.

Stokes is tremendous batsman.He has ability to stay on the wicket and still be able to attack when it is needed.

 

England team is loaded with batting talent.
