Ashwin lauds Aussies' tactical brilliance regarding pitch/Kookaburra

When you have too many one-dimensional players it is bound to happen.  Because of pathetic tail batting KL Rahul preemptively shut the shop way way too early. Once they got dismissed we had this 360 degree fluke and strokeless wonder Jaddu who had no wherewithals to take it from there. Last 40 overs of the final was a dark phase in Indian world cup history.

They should have batted positively regardless, there is no extra points for batting 50 overs. Aussies were allowed to bowl where they wanted, even part timers.

Even in bowling, we had chances but blew it.

Ashwin's being too cute with his "insights" like usual. First of all Cummins was bowling cutters on pretty much all surfaces, in fact since Lucknow vs SA from what I remember. Yes this pitch helped but you're telling me you had no *ing plans for that? How about batting out of your crease or staying legside of the ball? Are these *ers paid to be so daft or what

You've never seen slower bowls being used say in Sharjah in the 80-90's either? SRT would’ve stepped out of his crease & *ed Cummins down the ground or on off side, yes you need good placement but come one they had 4 fielders outside off! What about the 9 bowlers as well? As we lost wickets these part timers just bowled an over or two, didn't allow BRat/KL to get in rhythm & then target them & completed the fifth bowler quota for stupendous returns - remind us why the * did RGS played that stupid shot then just before end of the PP :whack2:

Yes you can say tactically Oz were far superior this game but our lack of game awareness & frankly execution did us in more than Oz being Magnus Carlsen level in cricketing strategies :om:

They were hoping for another seven-fer from Shami. Austrlaian batting depth is too good that they were going to scratch around and get whatever the mediocre total we put. It was a given. India needed to set their sights on above par total not below par. Can't blame bowlers here. No team can defend 240 on that pitch. We got a bit of luck reducing them to 48/3. Lack of aggressive captaincy let India down. India was one wicket away from creating a massive panic as Maxie can go either way. first ball duck or a sizzling 100.

We won 9/10 games on the back of our bowling, should've started chasing again in the last few games where we won the toss! Not that it mattered here but seems like the batting was running just on cruise control expecting bowlers to win them all games, every time - if we had to chase a big total in the SF or just before that it might've further evolved our strategy going to the final. One thing is for sure however TM had no confidence in Surya Kumar ever since that Eng game :whack2:

They backed the wrong horse and paid the price at the biggest stage. He was so bad that Kuldeep looked like a more accomplished batsman in the final. With plethora of talented batsman like Jaiswal, Rinku being available they went with this proven failure SKY.  They made their bed. Imagine a guy like Jaiswal walking in at 6.
