Thats what. Yuvraj was allowed to grow and establish himself in the team.   Ganguly and John Wright were looking at him as a long term investment which paid off .

It took him over a 100 ODIs but it was well worth it.

Which is why I think we are a bit too harsh on the younger lot coming through

We don't play anywhere near enough ODI cricket nowadays and we are a lot more demanding of young cricketers coming through

in tests, though, they don't deserve a super long run. the same yuvi was in and out of the test team, unlike prima donna gill who will never be dropped.

Yuvi was in a league of his own. He was the last dependable lower order bat we had.. hoping that Rinku will take up that mantle now. He could hit at will, was the best fielder and a more than useful bowler.

Yes, it takes a team to win a WC, but you cannot win it without the key cogs. Yuvi lifted the team and got them over the line 2 times - The same team minus Yuvi could not have done it; cannot say that for many other team-members.

Idiots who think it was just Yuvraj who won the world in 2007 and 2011.While Yuvraj played a vital role others also played their part.

Yuvraj himself costed India a t20 world cup with his slow ass batting in 2014.

If guy like Bumrah did not keep on laying eggs in important matches , India would have won more world cups with Rohit too.

Bowling conditions helped in 2011 when part timer could bowl full ten overs. Now they cannot bowl those part timers.

Yuvraj didn't win us 2007 & 2011 but lost 2014. Okay.

To the OP, I think it’s a toss up between Kohli, Rohit, Pandya and KL and Kohli can claim victory.

* Leaves the team in a rabble after the infamous 36 at Adelaide, he could have chose to come back to join the team but didn’t, blessing in disguise

*Abandons the 5th Test in England and runs of to play IPL, no repercussions

*Leeching of RCB despite failing to win a trophy in 10 years, thanks to his PR

*Opts out of the England series without any clear explanation while gearing up to play IPL

NZ was nowhere near as good as now. ditto for Eng. SL was somewhat better than now.

overall, Yuvi was not Ind's most consistent MO batter of his own time. that was dravid and then MSD. even in terms of the overused word "impact", likes of MSD had much more impact in that period

Are you kidding me?

NZ especially in NZ, Aus and England conditions were unbeatable. Shane Bond, Chris Cairns, Nathan Astle, Fleming etc. were unbeatable pre-2012.

England with Flintoff, KP, Vaughan etc. wasn't slouches either. In English conditions were way better than current lot.

Selective memory is what Indian fans always have.

The only minnows back then were Bangladesh and Zimbabwe and they were not minnows at home either.

People gave Yuvraj so many opportunities because he always contributed on the field and chipped in useful overs. Same with Raina too.

MSD, Yuvraj, Raina were the glue that held the middle order together after big 4 were no longer in ODI side. He might not have scored epic double centuries but at that time, even a 40 in middle order was good enough due to chasing low scores. 280 was a great score back then. Now in Indian conditions, you are looking at 350+.

Dhawan and Rohit made hay in this era with minnow bashing at exactly the same time when SL, BD, Pak and even SA etc. declined.

wow, talk about utter and blatant disregard for the data.

go look at how NZ did at home from 2000-2011 (the pre-2012 period) vs 2012-2024: home W/L record of 1.45 in the former and a much higher 2.88 in the latter

https://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/team/5.html?class=2;home_or_away=1;spanmax1=1+jan+2012;spanmin1=01+jan+2000;spanval1=span;template=results;type=team;view=results

https://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/team/5.html?class=2;home_or_away=1;spanmin2=01+jan+2012;spanval2=span;template=results;type=team;view=results

As for Eng, less said the better back then. Trescothick and KP were good ODI players as was Flintoff. the rest like hussain, vaughan, etc. were very poor. so many random journeyman players like ronnie irani, samit patel, etc. This Eng team is far better both at home and away than that lot.

The joke is on you. The fool Rohit turned into an Afridi all of a sudden in last WC putting immense pressure on Gill, Iyer, SKY and Rahul (all of whom we know don't perform under pressure). Kohli is past his prime anyways. Blaming on Bumrah is hilarious when everyone admits our bowling was what even took us to finals last WC - even Rohit Sharma himself.

The same situation we had in last WC final against AUS we had twice in T20 WC 2007 and 2011 WC QF here:
https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/icc-cricket-world-cup-2010-11-381449/india-vs-australia-2nd-quarter-final-433601/full-scorecard

If Rohit taken responsibility and scored a hundred like Ponting we would have won the world cup final. But he loser played an Afridi and his supporters call that "selfless". The idiot never takes responsibility of an experienced batsman playing the game for 20 years. Wants others to finish the job.

In both cases when it mattered, Yuvraj played a blinder. In 2011 WC Semi in particular, if not for Yuvraj and Raina, it was a repeat of last world cup. Both took the game home with plenty of overs to spare.

In same situation Rohit, SKY, KL, Jadeja and Kohli - so called "experienced" picks by Rohit Sharma himself, bottled under pressure. The worst was Rohit throwing his wicket away.

Bowling barring Zaheer Khan was pathetic in 2011 WC. We had Harbhajan, Ashwin and Munaf Patel as other front-line bowlers who were useless. Yuvraj was #1 bowler in most games or close second after Zaheer.

I find it hilarious you call people idiots but fail to understand Rohit Sharma is easily the biggest dud of all time. His legacy will be no different than Dhawan, Sidhu etc. KL Rahul will join him in this club soon.

Haha, look how conveniently you put "all teams" which included ATG Australian team from 2000-2011.

NZ played and lost mostly to AUS in this period as they played most games in NZ.

Filter out AUS and you will see the win record go up - especially in Tests and even ODI's if you filter until 2009. They were smoking India at will.

The only difference from them to now as that most other teams like SA, Pak, BD, SL etc. have regressed substantially to the point the current NZ team looks better.

Oh man, I love how you cherry pick stats to prove your narrative. As someone who lived the nightmares of NZ owning India from late 1990's to early 2000's... I can tell you they were dominant at home. Even the matches they lost were close encounters, not one sided by a long shot.

Even Rohit Sharma and Dhawan's career, if you remove WI, BD, SL and Pak and also remove home games, it will be a disaster. But stat padders conveniently ignore it as it will never fit their narrative. History will always remember Yuvraj. Even Dhoni with his not outs was a massive stat padder.

No one will remember Rohit Sharma or Dhawan or KL Rahul 40 years from now.

There are none.

This is why Dhoni himself never could repeat 2007 and 2011 wins without Yuvraj. Tried his best giving chances to Jadeja and even Pandya but they never could match him.

That 70(30) against Aus in 2007 is the type of innings no present or former Indian batsman can match. Just shut Aus out of the game completely after a very slow start.

It's sad we even have to have this discussion today.

About Dhawan, we had a really good chance of winning the 2019 world cup if he didn't get injured, he was is in the form of his life.

dhawan had better temperament than many give him credit for. it was unfortunate he got injured. however, the choke by the rest of them team was very disappointing

We should have had dhawan in wc. Him and rohit opening would have been perfect. Dhawan is a damn clutch icc tournment player i have ever seen from india

waaay too old. he was extremely poor in his last year of ODI cricket because his reflexes were gone. did you see him bat? tuk-tuked at a SR of 70-ish

Dhoni did win 2013 CT without Yuvraj though.
