The more time one spends the more you realise that it's impossible to compete with this land on food. Just mind boggling variety.

Without a doubt. And highly underappreciated even within the nation.

Also, the "cuisine gradients" that you can see as you travel from one region to the next is fascinating. For instance North Karnataka cuisine is a beautiful combo of Karnataka and Maharashtra cuisines. Kolhapuri flavors have clear Southie notes.

I guess other regions of the world have their own variety but I can't imagine them being the same or better.

@vvvslaxman this was really helpful to get the right English names for each fish

Very hard to order fish by name as they call it differently in each state in local restaurants

Damn. Never faced this problem in Chennai.

If we ask, they usually tell the fish type or the fish type is mentioned in the dish name.

Yea we love “korameena” fish. But we go to “TAJ” hotels for that. Its a 5 star and its like 4k rupeees for 3 pieces :phehe:. Thats why i said local restaurants not of reputation

I heard cost of goat meat is relatively less in North India compared to south india.

Is it due to less consumption?

I dunno man, i loveeeee goat keema. But have to be careful where u eat it or have it cooked at home by a cook or aunts. Now 5star hotels say “lamb keema” which is not that good compared to a goat.

@zen tell me a story…cant sleep. Had a dream of zen master like bahubali going to alumni house:cantstop:

Since this is a food thread, today my mom ordered - 2 Punjabi Thalis, Veg Kohlapuri, Nargis Kofta (supposed to be with spinach, and hopefully there are no dry fruits as if I am not wrong, in Nargis Kofta many chefs put dry fruits or is it in Navratna Kofta), Palak Paneer, and Kulcha, Naan, and stuff.

I don’t feel hungry at all and need to restart exercising as well. My mom is spoiling me. During Diwali, she got tons of sweets as well.

I think it will have 2-3 vegs (usually one paneer one), dal, rice, nans, sweets, pickles, etc.

My dad has become very picky (old age issues):

So he could go like in Kohlapuri, there is more mirchi, the Nargis Kofta has more salt, Palak Paneer’s gravy is thick or thin, etc., so she ordered thali as well to avoid listening to such things - eat whatever you like but don’t complain

It started with when my mom used to fondly cook for him. But one day he could go like “don’t put pepper in my food” and next day he could be like “why there is no pepper in my food”, so my mom is angry with him.
