MoM awards in cricket are a ****ING JOKE!!

Recommended Posts

in a match where 520 runs were scored at 6.07 RR, where 10 batsmen scored at over run a ball and only TWO of 12 bowlers went for under 5 rpo while bowling atleast half the overs, the MoM award goes to a batsman scoring a 50 over a bowler taking a 4-fer AND going for under 5 rpo. Not to mention, this bowler removed the two MOST DANGEROUS Pakistani batsmen - Malik and Afridi. Nevermind the fact that over run-a-ball 50s are dime a dozen from batsmen while 4-fers at under 5 rpo are much less common for bowlers. #$*$#$)( nonsense... What a JOKE for a sport and awards! *HAWK SPIT*

Joy, did you actually watch the game? Chawla had the better figures, but it was Praveen who really won the game. Chawla got Malik as the last wicket when he was going for wild hoicks to try and just salvage some pride. Afridi went out of pressure, forced to try and match a steep chasing rate near 9 an over. Chawla basically benefited from the situation set up by Praveen Kumar. Praveen took the new ball and bowled a fantastic spell, bar one over that went for 17. In that time he removed Butt (a frequent thorn in India's side), Younis and Yousuf before also getting Akmal - all of these happened at stages of the game where Pakistan would have been looking at chasing India's total. By the time Chawla came on, the game was as good as over - it was about 120/5, and Pakistan had no batting reserves remaining. On the other hand, no harm in Sehwag getting the award. Everyone expected the side winning the toss to bowl first. The pitch was expected to help the seam bowlers in the early part of the day, which it did. The ball was moving around a good deal right through - Gul and Riaz got movement even around the 25/30th over, and batting first was a gamble. Sehwag ensured it paid off. I'd have been happy seeing either Veeru or Praveen walk away with the MOM, but calling for Chawla to have it for scavenging a few cheap late wickets when the match was as good as done and Pakistan were just throwing wickets away or giving them up via a tail that couldn't bat is nuts.

FINE! I'd settle for even Praveen...but giving it to Sehwag is sheer ******y- for both Praveen and Chawla are FAR MORE DESERVING of the award. My point is, i tire of seeing batsmen scalping MoMs repeatedly after just above average performances while bowlers get overlooked repeatedly unless they do something EXTRAORDINARY.

cc out of those 520 beastilyl runs. 320 odd were scored by India. it wasn't the easiest of batting tracks either sehwag was the only dominant batsman in this game and rightfully getting the man of the match. he took the attack to pak. no one can debate that the start he gave to India today was the reason India actually won the game. compare that to the pak's batting collapse up the order chawla equaled kumar too in bowling..

BTW, one could also argue that Kamran Akmal deserved the award. A handful of byes, a number more hidden in the scorecard as 'five wides/noballs' when he missed takes off those, and a major letoff for Sehwag when he fumbled a regulation chance when Veeru was in his 40s.

Aye. Chawla picking up wickets with a RPO of 8+ needed and many wickets down is hardly a feat to write home about. Pakistan reeling at 26/3 with Yousuf and Eunice both in the hutch was MAJOR. So often, one or both of those two have delivered against India and defied the side when a win was expected. To get them both (and remove Butt and Akmal in the spell as well) crippled Pakistan and sealed the game. But Akmal and Sehwag did a wonderful job too. :--D

umm the only reason the bowlers got all those wickets was cos of the tremendous pressure on the paki batsmen to chase 330, which of course was mainly due to virus classy knock, it would have been unfair to give it to neone else but sehwag

IMO, the two main contenders were Sehwag and Praveen. Should've given a joint MoM. A technical way to go after nominating these MoM awards to quantify it: 1 run = 1 point 1 wicket= 20 points catch = 5 points stumping= 10 points So in the end, Sehwag would have 89 points and Praveen Kumar would've had 86 points Both of them had an impact on the game. IMO, Praveen Kumar's 4 wickets at the front blew the wind out the Pakistan's chase and he should've got it.

flawed... what about credit for not conceeding a run, or fine for indeed conceeding a run? what about credit for catches that are spectacular as opposed to regulation, and what about dropped catches? lets not try to introduce a discrete model where the variables are indeed complex. this can only be solved by complicated descartian analysis.

I agree it is flawed as well.:DI was just putting forth the idea and that was just a start and not a rigorous breakdown of the formula to be used. And not to mention the importance of wickets of the top order batsmen as compared to the tail, etc But even then, it was pretty close wouldnt you say.
