Kron Posted June 15, 2024 Posted June 15, 2024 (edited) Is this their greatest ever attack in Australian history across formats? Not greatest ever overall. Just from Australian perspective. I feel it is. Many Aussie commies even agree. They have won everything in white ball. 2 world cups for starc and hazlewood btw. Cummins missed due to injury. One t20 world cup One wtc. Yes wtc Is bit of a rubbish concept and honestly india after beating Australia in Australia and then at home should have been the real winners but at the end of the title people look at titles and they have the wtc title too. The only other pace attack worth comparing with this Aussie pace attack would be the one with mcg Gillespie and Lee Don't forget mcg had the advantage of playing alongside the grestst spinner of all time in Warne. I am not including spin. Just the pace attack. For me this is their most potent and greatest pace attack trio of all time. Add in the young Cameron Green and its a terrific 4 pronged attack for most conditions. Better than any of their attacks in the past. And they have also quietly managed to achieve 3 world cup titles and a wtc win inclusive of a t20 wc. Dennis lillee was like Cummins but Thommo just had pure pace. His numbers weren't quite as good and honestly I don't see him as better than hazlewood. Give this attack Warne instead of Lyon and they would be as potent as the west Indian quartet. They could go down as Aussies greatest LOI side too btw if they win this next t20 wc. Add in the champions trophy and there will be absolutely no doubt which team is the greatst LOI side. Nerves of steel. Pace bounce accuracy and just all round very versatile attack. Better than the one in mcgs era imo Put this same attack with that loaded batting side of noughties and they would win everywhere just as much as they did with mcg and Warne. cricketfan28 Posted June 15, 2024 Posted June 15, 2024 Probably, now the quality of other teams is better compared to what it was during ponting era. Kron 1

Ultimate_Game Posted June 15, 2024 Posted June 15, 2024 Definitely the pace attack. McGrath was amazing but Gillespie and other pacers along with him weren't of the same quality. These 3 are pretty good, and the best thing is they raise their game for knockouts.
Gollum Posted June 15, 2024 Posted June 15, 2024 Did nothing in India. Despite having Lyon who is even more deadly than Warne on our pitches. McGrath, Gillespie gave a defensive fast bowling masterclass in 2004 BGT which drove our big guns crazy. You can't be so poor in SC and expect to be hailed, no white privilege sorry. Pace attack only If you want to talk across different countries - T20s did not exist till before 15 years ago..... but still..... The West Indies quartet of Roberts, Holding, Croft and Garner or Roberts, Holding, Marshall, Garner and any 3 of those will wipe the floor of Starc, Cummins and Hazelwood in either tests or LOIs but especially tests. I remember after the 1983 win Marshall and co coming to India and winning the test series 3-0 and ODI series 6-0. They did that in country after country and especially in Australia.

Just the pace attack bro. Not inclusive of spinner. I agree partially but the third bowler in Lee really let's them down for me. But fair point. Aside from india tours though, would you say they have been great mostly ? You don't feel hazlewood is on par with Gillespie? Stats are very similar and yes I don't just believe in stats. Stats doesn't tell the whole story and I fully agree. Hazlewood did reasonably ok in 2016 iirc. Had a 6fer.

I am just talking about Australia specifically. Just australia. No one comes close to west Indian quartet bro. For Australia though don't you think their pace attack is their best ever? Or on par with mcg and gillespie'a trifecta? Excluding spinners that is.

Its probably similar to Lee, McGrath and Gillespie ...... but leaving out Warne is almost criminal my man! And when you put in Warne it becomes a better attack even with Lyon in there. McGrath, after he included the baseball tricks in his bowling, was just better than all the other 5. Plus he could bowl forever. For those saying Lyon is better than Warne in India, yes.... but the Aus teams then won a series in India and almost won another except for the follow-on and the herculean partnership of Laxman and Dravid followed by Harbhajan's 7. The third test was also a narrow win for India. It was all McGrath and co. Kron 1

Morkel is a tall bowler who is extremely dangerous to left handers. Philander can pitch a ball on a coin and move it both ways off the seam. India has been winning Border -Gavaskar trophy in Aus soil twice in a row. But India also have an atg bowling attack. India's attack from 2015 to 2022 is better than SAs attack imo. Numbers back this too. But yea everyone has their preference.
Gollum Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 In test cricket, India of 2015-22 (except couple of years when Bumrah or Shami were injured) is the most well rounded attack IMO. Invincible in SC and in SENA have given multiple test series on platter which our misfiring batsmen kept messing up (except couple of BGT). On SC pitches this is the GOAT attack. Bumrah, Shami, Umesh, Ashwin, Jadeja, Kuldeep, no place to hide for batsmen. Funny part is at home, Umesh/Shami have better stats than Ashwin/Jadeja. Kron 1
Gollum Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 ICC trophies are part of their legacy. But losing 4 consecutive BGTs is also their legacy, when they had better batting lineups in 3 out of those 4 series. Even at our worst we never lost 4 consecutive series against any team, that too long ones, not 2 tests farce. Stan AF and Kron 2

Even Aussie commies say this could be their best though? And no I watched since 90s. I am talking about purely Australia's best attack. Not overall
