u r wrong in WI WC on flat pitches shaun tait was the second highest wicket taker. In India, i dont think we have any pacer like tait, Lee, Edwards, but an express pacer is always an asset to disturb the batsman with pace and bouncers. In domestic, Sudeep Tyagi and Umesh Yadav are considered to be the fastest but they are too young and still no where near the international pace standards. But is so amazing to see county cricket where we find many 90 mph bowler more than in Australia Dom. cricket. England are producing many quick bowlers now they have 5-6 pacers who are in domestic bowl 90 mph and its becoz of there cricket academies, they make 90 mph bowlers in their academies. Our MRF has not done anything special yet in this area, i have heard about Rahul Shukla from MRF to be quick. he played fro AIS in Emerging player tourny and bowled well, got the wicket of Badrinath on a bouncer, but its yet to be seen on TV how quick he is.

So, nearly an year after this discussion, we had 30 probables for Champions Trophy as: MS Dhoni, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Rohit Sharma, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Suresh Raina, Yusuf Pathan, Abhishek Nayar, Ishant Sharma, Zaheer Khan, RP Singh, Praveen Kumar, Harbhajan Singh, Pragyan Ojha, Ravindra Jadeja, Dinesh Karthik, Munaf Patel, R Ashwin, M Vijay, Amit Mishra, Ajinkya Rahane, Dhawal Kulkarni, S Badrinath, Ashish Nehra, Virat Kohli, Bhuvneshwar Kumar Singh, Wriddhiman Saha, Pankaj Singh. In this, Dravid, Badrinath, M Vijay and Pankaj Singh are absolutely useless. What would you have as 12 top batsmen, 3 top keepers, 7 top pacers and 3 top spinners? IMO it should be: Sachin Sehwag Gambhir Yuvraj Raina Rohit Yusuf Nayar Kohli Rahane Pujara ? Dhoni Karthik Saha Zaheer Ishant Munaf RP Singh Sreesanth Irfan Tyagi Nehra Bhajji Ojha Mishra What do you all say about the pool of 25 players?

Won't this list go a sea change now with number of younger and more talented batsmen like Dhawan, Rayudu, Saurabh Tiwari, Manoj Tiwari, M Vijay, Manish Pandey etc joining in? But unfortunately I can't see any addition in the bowling department, and one can say safely that Munaf and RPS won't be included in any group now.

Its amazing how people have started touting Ambati Rayudu, Shikhar Dhawan & Saurabh Tiwary as potential stars of the future after just a few matches in the IPL. While Tiwary is a definite new addition to the list, it is strange that- People are jumping into the bandwagon(generally speaking) to support Rayadu & Shikhar's credentials on playing for India, coz its not the IPL that makes them potential India stars. They always were potential Indian stars.

There wasn't an Indian hundred in the first season; second season saw Manish Pandey make the cut and now Yusuf Pathan and Murali Vijay have added to the list. Why, Naman Ojha missed his ton by not much in that record chase against Chennai Super Kings. And we still are at the half-way stage. A double century in ODIs wouldn't be such a rarity now. Still, Vijay's feat deserves a closer look. In his five Tests, Vijay has only one half century and a scoring rate of 55.45. Mostly he has got in when one of the regulars batsman have been missing. He has mostly hit along the ground as his solitary six in Tests reveal. His only ODI also didn't offer any significant insight-nor did the first two seasons of IPL. Now he has taken everyone by surprise. Yet there is a consistency in how he makes everyone revise their opinion on him. He has shown he can hold one end up and if required, can conjure up an avalanche of sixes. He is special. His preferred hitting area is onside, the arc between square leg and long-on. Most Indians develop strong wrists for on slow home pitches, where the ball doesn't come on to the bat, you can only force it by whipping across the line. On faster wickets you develop your offside strokeplay and on slower wickets the onside area is a time-tested logic. Who knows, Vijay could have been on the plane to the Caribbean had he played this knock in time for selection. So the battle for India's middle order is now in earnest. Rohit Sharmas, Suresh Rainas and even Yuvraj Singhs have challenge shaping up from the likes of Murali Vijay, Sourabh Tewary, Manish Pandey and Robin Uthappa. It suggests a powerful future where no team would be safe with any total. Heady days indeed are ahead of India's T20 mission.

Yes. That is how he has evolved in these 2 years and all the credit to him. I would have never thought in 2008 that Vijay would present himself as a candidate for ODI. He just looked like a wonderful test prospect then. But the way he has scored is Ranji also is very creditable.

Rayudus career was held up byt the ICL, but even prior to that his domestic form wasnt so hot and didnt quite live up to the U19 promise. Hope he scores big in the next FC season...

Indeed..both him and Badri toured the WI for the ODI series last year but did not get a game. Problem for MV is that KKD backs up as wkt keeper and is a very handy bat himself. Ideal for a squad selection as it effectively opens up room for another player... its a good headache to have for selectors

Wouldnt undergo a sea change per se... just replace Pujara and '?' with Vijay and Dhawan IMHO Im a bit loathe to start thinking the younger guys are ready for ODIs based on their IPL performances. Itll be good to give them another FC season at least.

I'm not saying this based on any IPl performance which I haven't even seen. I had watched Rayudu's U-19 matches which he played in England and knew that he was a very talented batsman since then. He has played FC cricket for 7 years despite facing all that trouble from the Hyderabad administration, even changing his FC team for a year and then when nothing worked he had no option but to join ICL. He is 24 years old now and is finally showing what he is worth of. He needs a break or else we'll lose a very talented batsman who can play defensively as well as can change gears when needed.

In making a pool for ODI, yes, especially after failure of Vijay in the Emerging players' tournament. Even Dravid is useless to me for making a pool for ODI players for 2011 WC in 2009

Oh absolutely, quality young player but he had only a good but not outstanding season for Hyd last year. Great that he is back in the main fold. Needs to really be towards the top of the scoring charts for two seasons or so before he can be a contender for a middle order He has been good in the IPL- very good in fact. Some really mature innings'

My post was to highlight the contradiction, not to declare him a good ODI prospect, which I think he is going by the way he has played in the tests so far where he has scored at a decent pace.
