It's not forcing. Its giving jobs to people appropriate for the role irrespective of anyone's choice. Bowling coach for example needs to be well versed in bowling actions, fitness, be a good communicator. He'll converse more with players than Head coach. So why should head coach choose him.

Because the bowling coach will report to the head coach that is why. Assumption is whoever is being picked is not incompetent at what you are talking about if the coach himself had a track record based on which you hired him. Why would Gambhir ask for Jason Gillespie or Curtly Ambrose as bowling coach as an eg if he has never worked with them? The role has more to do with familiarity and connections.

Why do connections matter? All coaches report to BCCI. If Gillespie/Ambrose are better than Mhambrey etc, why ignore them just because head coach never worked with them? We adjust with new people all the time.

Has Rohit worked with Gambhir before in captain-coach roles?

Connections and past record matter because of the job profile and nature of the job. It's counter productive to insist on picking someone head coach has never worked with. It happens in football and many other jobs.

Rohit has never worked with Gambhir, why is he picked? Is captain's input not important now?

There's always a first time. Professionals put their ego aside and work with chosen guys.

Captain doesn't decide the coach but he can say if he doesn't want to work with someone like Kohli did and it is for bcci to consider his opinion or discard it as the call is theirs finally.

Jobs within same organisation also have silos, just coz coach is asked for whom he wants as head coach doesn't mean everyone else has to be asked for every other thing too.

Saying whom you prefer to work with is not an ego issue, saying you cannot work with someone who you may have had some bad history with might need you to put ego aside. It's just a matter of what is optimal. When I made my house too I had issues when I insisted on a couple of contractors by overruling the architect.

How do you know Rohit is against Gambhir.

As I said earlier, giving input is okay but it should not be necessarily be coach's choice. Final decision is on BCCI/selectors.

The contractors were probably of similar credentials so it was matter of preference. Here I am talking about selecting nobodies because head coach likes them like we did with Rathore and Mhambrey.

Where did I say he is? :hmmmm2:

You said why is Gambhir picked if he did not work with Rohit.Dravid also did not work Rohit before he became a coach.

Your point of Head coach not getting his choice of coaches is completely wrong.

Did you even read full post? If head coach can be selected without working before with captain, why can't other coaches be selected without working previously with head coach?

It is BCCI's choice that is why they ran through a list before settling on Morkel.

Even during Shastri's time iirc they were going to change the bowling coach but he said he wants to retain Arun.

All I'm saying it shouldn't be head coach's choice solely. I don't know why they agreed on Rathore and Mhambrey. Even gave Rathore another term. What were his credentials?
