When I had first watched it, I felt it lacked more action for a spy film. But watching it again with the knowledge of its drama focused nature, setting the right expectations, this one shines. The interactions between Bogart and Greenstreet are the highlights, along with the exchanges between Bogart and Astor on the Genoa Maru. At times, it feels like a Bond film where you enjoy extended conversations between Bond and the villain. In a way, the action here is channeled through the energy of Bogart. The film shines as a drama focused spy thriller set for the most part on a ship. With the right expectations, this one comes across as a relatively unique film in its genre. zen Posted November 11, 2025 Author Posted November 11, 2025 (edited) From Hell (2001) 4.25/5 Based on a graphic novel on the Ripper case, this film was moderately successful on its release, receiving mixed reviews as well. However, I feel that it is relatively underrated. It has good cinematography, production design where the 19th century London comes alive, a score that brings modern touch to 19th century, and good acting. It is gory. It may not be a film for everyone, but overall, it is a good example of a period detective suspense horror film. It is interesting how the film points to the killer before he is revealed by showing one of his hands. It is a wink to the viewers who are paying attention to details. zen Posted November 13, 2025 Author Posted November 13, 2025 OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies (2006, French) 4.25/5 A fun 007 parody film with a good repeat value. Recreates the 50s brilliantly! Has a nice score as well.
singhvivek141 Posted November 16, 2025 Posted November 16, 2025 Baramulla (3.7/5) Starts with tale of missing children in the small town of Baramulla...and a honest police officer is at the cross roads of proving himself a loyal father, a capable police officer, multiple cases of kidnapping and a supposedly haunted house with history behind the walls. Manav Kaul & Bhasha Sumbli, both being Kashmiris have played this role brilliantly. Manav Kaul himself is from Baramulla so his expressions, dialogue's and his mannerism is an apt match. Ending is tragic, and although a fiction but seems to be inspired by many such unknown stories of Kashmir which we didnt saw/read about. Characterization could have been better, there are bit lf jump scares, but few things seemed incomplete, perhaps were removed during the edits or by the censor board. Wont call it a masterpiece, but definitely worth watching. Mariyam, crictime and zen 3

Ranvir Posted June 14 Posted June 14 The Wrestler 4.5/5 A great performance by Mickey Rourke as an aging washed out professional wrestler struggling with life outside the ring. Although I believe he is just playing himself, but like Jack Nicholson and Al Pacino after Scarface that character is great to watch. Rhe only negatives i could find is that the relationship with his faughter was not given enough airtime.

zen Posted July 21 Author Posted July 21 Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019, French) 5/5 In the past I avoided the film as I thought it might not be for me. The film was one of the options on an inflight entertainment. I checked it out of curiosity to find it to be a fantastic film.

I must say that technically they have paid a lot of attention and delivered a masterpiece to show people what the Air force has done in the past and what it is capable of. singhvivek141 Posted September 4 Posted September 4 Just finished "The Last Salute" on Netflix. A tribute to the Mig 21. A documentary, not many people might like it...but it surely deserves its attention towards the legendary fighter jet of IAF. I hope, soon, we will give similar send off to Su30MKI as well.
