Bloody Legend vanishes...

NEW DELHI: ONGC beat Air India by four runs to lift the Goswami Ganesh Dutt memorial cricket tournament at the Ferozeshah Kotla on Thursday. For ONGC, Radhey Shyam Gupta scored a century. Gautam Gambhir (55) and Mithun Manhas (45) also contributed to set up a score of 250 from 40 overs. Air India fell just short while chasing a revised target of 169 from 27 overs. The match wasn’t exciting, thanks to rain hampering play. But then, Ishant Sharma did a vanishing act. And it turned into a juicy affair. During the rain-break, Ishant apparently went for an "unavoidable shooting commitment" which when the match restarted became the crux of an argument between Virender Sehwag and Md Kaif. Kaif was batting when he noticed Ishant missing from the field. He confronted Sehwag who said Ishant was injured and, interestingly, promised that the ‘hurt’ fast bowler would be back in 15 minutes. Umpire K Hari Haran, in accordance with the guidelines, left it to the two captains to come to an understanding regarding Ishant’s substitution. The captains agreed on a substitute, thinking that Ishant would be back in 15 minutes. But 15 minutes turned to 20 and 20 into 40 with no sign of Ishant. When he finally showed up, only a few minutes were left in the match. "Just because Ishant is a big player doesn’t mean he can play around with rules," reacted an Air India player.

BCCI should ask for explanations from Ishant ... BCCI promptly shot off a letter to sreesanth ... its time now to act on others as well... How come the incident of Praveen Kumar was outside the purview of BCCI and Sreesanth's is..? i think because of Sreesanth's past history of mischiefs ... BCCI wants to teach him a lesson... But why not discipline others too who might create problems in future..

I don't know why people are laughing about this. I know it was not an International game or State cricket, but the morale of this article is that Ishant valued 'unavoidable shooting commitment' more than the game of cricket itself. Why did he make his commitment towards the film shoot if he knew he will be part of a game of cricket ? - Ishant showed signs of deteriorating away from the 'Aussie form' he carried in IPL. Note IPL paid Ishant $ 950,000 - We all know how he bowled in Kitply Tri-series. BCCI has to manage youngsters properly who are swimming in big pool of dollars.

Ishant needs to be warned and penalized. This is ridiculous, what he did and totally unacceptable. IPL, movie/ad shootings, $$$, and eventually one after another good young talent will retire at 24, or play seedha saadha cricket  Are these guys gonna be Fit and Raring to go and take wickets in a pumped up manner when Oz visits India or what?

Ishant shd be penalized by the team that he is representing not BCCI..this is absolutely ridiculous..its ok to have media commitments but then to disappear in the middle of a match is stupid..this jus shows that his mind was not in the game and he was thinking about his shooting stuff all the time..the young man is getting carried away..no one is bigger than the game and no one can take his place for granted..hope he understands that and gets his mind back on wat he does best..that is to bowl..

well finey if thats the way Ishant is going then no one can stop him..and the game has seen a lot of players like him..so if a cricketer is not committed enuf then he wud eventually end up like wat u said no matter how much ever the ppl around him try..so if he learns its gud for him if not its gud for Indian cricket..its not like he is irreplaceable..so chillax

While it may be a little funny at first leaving an on-going match for shooting. but this is serious stuff. And Ishant should be warned by the BCCI so that he stays focussed for the future.

Ishant has already fizzed off after getting back home. His real litmus test will be the Aussie series at the end of they year. We will know then whether we have a dependable bowler in him or not. At least, Praveen while smacking doctors around hasn't lost his bowling form...
