Why would I pick 2 spinners in Perth ?

 

We usually play 4 pacers and 1 spinner  in SENA tests these days except Sydney type pitches. 

 

If Rohit is unavailable then Rahul is the only viable option as 2nd opener. Easwaran failed in both innings in the A team game.

Gill can open if needed. Easwaran failed but so would KL. Nothing wrong in trying new players.

Play Sudarshan instead of Easwaran. Also we don't need 2 spinners in Perth. Go in with a horses for courses approach and play Nitish as 4th seamer instead of Jadeja. Same for Brisbane. For the other 3 venues we can drop Nitish and play the extra spinner

Sudarshan is not in the squad.

 

Nitish is more of a batsman.  But yes that can be considered.

Gill averages 42+ at No.3 from 14 tests and 32 as opener from 17 tests. So I will keep him at 3.

 

Not sold on Easwaran, especially as the 3rd debutante. 

 

It's better to niggle out Rahul / Easwaran and bring in Sudarshan as opener and play him.

Nitish averages 26 with the ball after 22 FC games. Can play as a 4th seamer. His role would be to fill in overs while giving rest to the 3 main quicks along with picking a wicket or two, anything more is a bonus.

What deep batting? We have useless KL Rahul and tailender Kohli in the top 4. If Jaiswal falls early, we'll struggle to go beyond 180. I can see India being 3 down for 50 in every innings.

Deep batting does not mean strong batting. 

 

Deep batting means some batting ability after top 7.

In that case you can make any batting lineup "deep". Push a couple of tailenders up the order and call it a deep batting lineup. This is what we are. Useless KL and tailender Kohli at 4 don't make the batting deep. This lineup is fragile and expectation is for lower order to cover up for the main batters. This approach seldom works.

 

Tailenders and lower order are more likely to contribute if there's a platform. But if we're 60/4, the lower order is unlikely to push them to a score of 300.

I am NOT saying that our's is a strong batting lineup. 

 

No point crying about Kohli because he is being kept for commercial reasons. I don't like it but the squad is already selected for Australia. Only way to remove him is if he fails totally in Australia and we lose too.

 

Superstars over-staying their welcome is a BIG issue in Indian cricket right from Kapil Dev's time. How do we solve this ?

 

KL Rahul can be removed and will be in a short time.

At least we can replace KL Rahul with Sai Sudarshan. I have way more faith in Sai than KL.
