How abt semi final?

:fear1:

icc is looking for ind matches, 1 semi and final in uae option. looks like deal is already done its just posturing and using the media.

icc would nt have waited for 11th hour before announcing it

https://www.zapcricket.com/blogs/newsroom/upcoming-icc-tournament-fixtures-and-schedule?srsltid=AfmBOorYtbki7AQpLSlZ_0MCaodQYI9GUDVnvLH2GrW_jRaUElKcQLOy

in all reality pcb has no bargaining chip, 2026 wc is hosted by ind and sl and 2031 wc is hosted by ind and bd only 2029 ct is hosted by ind.

think pcb might be looking for some kind of kick-backs at this time

Don't worry. With likes of Rohit, Kohli and KL in the team, India won't get to SF :agree:

If by some miracle they do, BCCI and Jay Shah will move the SF to "Dewbai" where we'll lose the toss and the SF :giggle:

India not going to Pakistan has nothing to do with parliament attack or any such attacks. We played several bilaterals even in Pakistan after kargil and parliament attack. This step is only for players safety.

Maybe not at the time (though we should have) but Modi govt does factor it in their decision making.

If it's hybrid, India won't qualify semis

True. India will lose most of the tosses and the match at that dew ridden venue. Even if they somehow sneak in to the SF, they're bound to lose the toss in the SF. Have never seen India winning important tosses.

Dew is an issue even in all Pakistani venues at times.

2014 World T20 final, 2015 CWC SF, 2016 World T20 SF,  2021 2 matches against PAK/NZ,  Adelaide 2022 ,   Ahmedabad 2023.

We got the worse conditions on all these 7 occasions. Yeah some really bad luck.

I read a stat after 2023 WC Final that we only won one toss out of last 12 knockouts, and that was in the SF against NZ. That's unbelievably bad luck when you see that Aus under Aaron Finch won 6 out of 7 tosses to win the WT20 in 2021 at Dewbai. They lost just one toss and were hammered by 8 wkts by Eng. We can only dream about such luck with the toss.

And to make matters worse along with the bad luck with the coin, under Kohli we also shot ourselves in the foot by decisions such as dropping Sham in 2019 WC SF in place of Chahal, or playing 2 spinner sin WTC Final on a green, seaming pitch against NZ when NZ went with 0 spinners

It is but not to the same extent as Dewbai. In Pak the pitches are still good to bat without dew and get better. But in Dewbai, the pitches are tough to bat on in the afternoon and the ball holds up. But once the dew comes in, the pitch becomes a batting beauty. The difference between the conditions is too extreme in Dewbai compared to Pak.

That's what.  We screwed ourselves in different ways in 2017 CT final, 2019 CWC and in the WTC finals.

We had luck on our side and still could not capitalise because the teams selected were not good enough.

It depends. It's more prominent in T20's in Dubai I think. Not sure about ODIs.

Lahore has always been a belter under lights.  You can go right back to the 1996 World Cup final and plenty of matches there have shown that the ball skids on after about 20 overs in 2nd innings and bowling is near impossible.

Bhuvi I can still understand in a place like Eng. But how can you drop Shami and play Chahal? And why pick 2 spinners on green seaming pitch with rain all around and rain predicted throughout the Test (WTC final)? Or decide to bowl  first on a patta against Pak knowing fully well Pak are mental midgets at chasing a decent score (2017 CT Final).

There're some decisions which defy belief. Even casual cricket fans were stumped by some of these calls. But for someone to get these calls wrong consistently in every knockout is mind-boggling. Anyone would think Kohli was trying to lose on purpose. Every knockout game and a bizarre decision or team selection. Kohli as captain made me rate Dhoni a lot higher. I don't recall any major goof up in team in selection or a poor decision. And he did it without likes of Bumrah and Shami in his arsenal.

I think the difference will be even more pronounced in ODIs in Dewbai where the first team will struggle through their innings and the chasing team gets to bat all 50 overs on a better surface.

Pak pitches are still better. In 2004 when India won under Ganguly, the decider was in Lahore and India batted first and scored 290. And Pak folded chasing the total under lights and we had Irfan and Balaji as bowlers. So it's not an automatic "win toss, bat first, and win" venue.

And the common factor in all those losses were brilliant decision making of "King" Kohli and his continual "no show" with the bat despite him averaging 60+ with the bat and scoring 100s for fun in bilaterals.

Not automatic I agree. ODI pitches rarely are.

That was the 2nd consecutive match at Lahore

Previous match, we chased down 294 in 45 overs.

Even in the decider ,after Pathan wrecked the top order and they were 4 down for nothing , Malik and Moin Khan batted very easily once that early swing vanished.

Ijaz Ahmed 137 against us happened in Lahore iirc and pitch had changed completely

Also 1997 Wills Cup.

SA scored 271 and then Pollock reduced PAK to 9/4 and still PAK reached 262 against Donald/Pollock/Fanie etc

Then went close and Youhanna was wrongly given out.

Every other game went close in chasing

Chasing is the best option in Pakistan

As a Pakistani, I had hope for regional peace and prosperity. However reading this thread, it appears a distant dream.
a decade of brainwashing by the BJP and “independent media” has worsened the equation after mega stupidities by Pakistani establishment. The irony is unmistakable when the average human forgets what’s best for them.
