That's the biggest myth I've seen touted everywhere. No. Tendulkar and Kambli didn't have the same "talent". Just because they scored a triple hundred together in a school match doesn't make them equally talented. There's a reason Tendulkar holds the record for scoring 100 on debut in Ranji and Duleep (or was it Irani?) trophy and youngest player to do so. There's a reason Tendulkar was picked to play Tests as a 16 year old. There's a reason Tendulkar performed as a teenager in Aus and Eng.

 

Kambli was nowhere close to Tendulkar. the two double tons he scored against Zim don't put him in the same category as Tendulkar. No doubt Tendulkar was much more disciplined and dedicated but that doesn't mean he wasn't insanely talented. You're making it sound as if Kambli was Lara. Let's end this fantasy that Tendulkar and Kambli were equally talented. They were not. They played for the same school and had the same coach but that's where the similarities end.

Agreed that Kambli was not on the same level as SRT overall in terms of talent.

 

Having followed them from Harris Shield (back then, a lot more followed it) and seen them from Ranjis onward, this is what I felt:

 

spin: Kambli > SRT by a small amount (yes, it seems like a travesty, but Kambli's peak spin-playing skills were better than SRT and Lara)

pace/bounce: Kambli << SRT (this is where SRT shone over most Ind batters of 90s)

seam/swing: Kambli < SRT
