OT - We all had friends in school and college. Some we kept in touch with, others not so much.

But that phase in life - and it was good and special - is over. It is time to move on.

Now if I meet someone on the road from the past, of course I will stop and talk. If someone needs some help... sure we all try to help. However that is all. Some try to recreate the past but it is just not possible. Just let it go. This is for me but it might be different for others.

True. After every 5-7 years we change a lot. We don't remain the same person.

Sachin is now more friendly with Sehwag, Sourav Ganguly, Yuvraj-Harbhajan, Zaheer etc. with whom he had best years as a team player.

Some of you may have missed this nuance - Kambli was seated to the side, SRT in the middle. Kambli was waiting on stage, SRT came  later.  I personally happen to know that in the world of stage appearances, that is a clear and brutal reminder of status.

Here is the hard fact (well it’s my experience anyway).

It’s difficult to remain in contact with old friends who persistently mess themselves up through bad habits or wild behaviour.

You definitely grow up and sometimes you also grow away.  And when your accomplishments, economic status take you even farther ahead it compounds the alienation.

That said it was sad to see Kambli trying to clutch SRT’s hands.

Kambli atleast could have come properly to this function.

He is only himself to blame for his downfall.

There are many of Achrekar ' student who didn't make it big,ie Mujumdar,Amre but they conduct themselves well in public

They played close to 100 matches together in one day internationals. 97 ODIs to be precise. Also 17 tests. There are many players who didn't even play 10 tests and 10 ODIs. Kambli has played more than 100 ODIs. His problem is drug i think.  Many players did not even play 10 tests or 10 ODis. THey are all having a decent life. As they say Health is Wealth. if you are going to ruin your health with drugs and other things no amount of money can save you.

Did SRT ever help Kambli with any money? I am sure he is a philanthropist. Just curious how would it be done, he would not want to make it direct obviously. It might be touchy and might trigger bad behaviour.

Aakash Jhopda and many more are earning good and making name for themselves outside of playing cricket with their hard work be it commentating or analyst, columnist ot a youtuber. Kambli played MUCH more and had a lot of fame. He squandered his wealth and health due to his own actions

If he even played local corporate leagues and did commentator assignments with passable attitude in marathi he would be a multi millionaire now. How can someone waste so much talent and opportunities. Sheesh.

If he had stayed healthy he could still do all those things. Gavaskar is what. 74. He is still mentally alert. His problem is health more than wealth.

Kambali and Sachin are 2 entirely different personalities, Kambali was more flamboyant where else sachin appeared more grounded and reserve.

Kambali's personality may be more liked today but when he was playing cricket not so, even today he wont find many who will like him unless he performed heavily.

Take kolhi for example even when he was scoring and wining Ind matches ppl didnt like his attitude and still many do not like his over the moon excitements.

Nt sure how and what went wrong between them, do not think that one statement would have caused this much of rift between the two. but in this video its appears that sachin is trying to avoid kambli.

Kohli is brash but he takes things like fitness and diet very seriously. Something which kambli lacked. You can't really compare them.

fitness and diet were not a thing in cricket back then, and currently its still a personal thing.

Its still visible in ind team.

I still remember before being found out overseas and not coping with attitude and skirt chasing problems, he had this godly 54? Test average andooks a *ing million dollars every time he walked out. Unbelievable and sad. Hope he finds what he needs at this point in his life.

He doesnt sound mentally stable at all, doesnt look like an International Cricketer from the past but some drug addict who lives on the street.

That’s a man who’s either high on something, or who has ruined his physical health to the point that he talks like someone who’s had a stroke or two.

Or both.

To me it very obvious - just see the expressions on the faces of the people there.

Either way we should stop blaming SRT for what Kambli has done to himself.
