IPL + Domestic stats is the only tangible benchmark to give some idea . Any success out of that is usually an anamoly not the other way around. It may not guarantee success  especially even more so in a fickle sport like cricket.

Yup and that's why I'm so big on Rinku. He has performed in domestic across all 3 formats, has performed in IPL, and has impressed with his temperament in intl (T20Is). You need to back players who have the right temperament and look like they belong in IPL and intl stage.

 

Those are the players which succeeded in BGT 2020-21 (Sundar, Thakur, Nattu, Siraj, Pant etc.) and those are the ones who've done well this series (Jaiswal, Reddy). Sai Sudarshan and Jurel also belong to this category along with Ramandeep Singh (for shorter formats), Riyan Parag (shorter formats) and Abhishek (shorter formats).

 

You need players with the right attitude, talent, temperament and that confidence which says "I belong at this level". This is a much better approach than picking likes of KS Bharat.

I thought Rinku has played in some "A" tours? Didn't seem to have done that well, IIRC. Pity he didn't get more chances

Not too many. He has been pigeonholed to be a T20 batter just because he hit those 5 6s to win the match. But they haven't seen the way he bats and builds his innings. He's not some bling slogger but an actual batter.
