3 years back when India was beset by spat of injuries we had to use net bowlers. We accidentally discovered Sundar , Thakur. Now  2024, When all the focus is on Sarfraz, Paddikkal, Jurel  we have NItish Reddy coming out of syllabus. How many such potential players who are niche international materials but otherwise average in domestic.  We have all type of combination

Domestic bully INternational bully

Domestic bully International failure

Domestic failure International bully

A tours must happen more frequently to identify such talents. Jurel played brilliantly in the A match. Sadly he is used as a filler. We shouldn't just focus on stats builders. There are million ways you can build stats in domestic. There has to be a platform that resembles interntaional cricket to identify these players. IRani Trophy used to be our gold standard.  Nowadays with IPL we have more avenues identify such players.

Don't forget: Domestic failure International failure [this happened a lot in 70s to 90s]

Nitish Reddy has not come out of syllabus. If you feel that way you are not following Indian domestics. The guy was a batting allrounder who can bowl medium pace but ended uo

highest wicket taker in domestics. Did extremely well in IPL than a lot of hyped products and never put a foot down in pretty much every single opportunity he got.

i think Tilak Verma was more of a surprise package. Didn’t expect the beast mode we saw of him in SA.

Washington was definitely a surprise last Aus series but not anymore

Mukesh is another guy I rate highly. Looks innocuous but another Shami in the making.

I seriously did not expect even the most promising talent to bat like this in Australia. Reddy probably was good. Not sure i would have expected him to be this good. Played with such authority.

he batted on the level of 18-yr-old SRT in his debut tour. I cannot think of anyone from Ind having such a good tour of Oz at such a young age and at such an early stage in the career.

Ok cool. In time you will agree there  too :weights:

If I could have given both upvote and LOL symbol, I would have put both.

IPL is the most important avenue for us to identify players... For any format. Nitish would be watching this series at home if Sunrisers didn't give him games. Luckily he was outstanding in those opportunities.

There are many domestic talents who won't have a break through if they don't get the eyes during IPL season. One of the reasons Sarfaraz will forever be at a disadvantage, he should have been in this side 3 years ago when he was in beast mode

I think Raj Bawa is another guy who has good, but not great, domestic stats... but could become a really good player if given chances. Likewise for Nishant Sindhu. These are two ARs I have high hopes in.

Good thing is current/future era is producing lots of multi-skilled cricketers for diff formats. NKR, Sundari, Abhishek, Tilak (to an extent), Hardik, Parag, Axar, Jaddu - all among the capped players. And Bawa + Sindhu among uncapped ones.

Good call. We need to have this gut feeling selection. Raj bawa, Hangarkekar. they may end up being better at the highest level. Same with Tyagi. Just put him in a series against zimbabwe or ireland and see how he responds. India can afford to send two teams nowadyas.

India can afford to throw the people  deep end given the hectic schedule . This is especially true for fast bowling.  Tried and tested failures should not come back. Unadkat is a case in point. Chahal is another one.

I don't have this gut feeling about Hangu, but I have it about Bawa. I think he can be a NKR-type player. Dynamic batter and a slightly better/quicker bowler.

Sindhu strikes me as best replacement for Jaddu. Someone who can score 100s and take 5fers; not just one or the other. More of a balanced AR.

Riyan Parag should be selected for the Test team.He is explosive batsman ,spinner and a good fielder.

He has attitude to succeed  in test cricket.

Mayank,Umran should be given opportunity resting Bumrah and devlop them.

Manav Suthar,Kotian, should be given opportunities as Ashwin has retired.

Selection committe should have visionaries. Not guys who dance to the tune of sponsors.

If we go by eye test, then Kotian doesn't impress me. We should have Sindhu for spin-bowling AR in the future. If we want bowling AR, Suthar is a good pick.

Parag would be an interesting selection. He too has moderate FC/Ranji record, but it's a lot better in last couple of seasons.

We need a good opener to partner Jaiswal.
