vvvslaxman Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Back in the 80s, 90s i suppose the small town scouting was non-existent. Around Ganguly's time it changed. Since the IPL we are seeing more and more small town players. Natrajan in another era would have struggled to find a spot in the INdian side. Very remote village. IPL scouting led him to where he was. There are a few other stories like that. As of now IPL teams do their own scouting. Does BCCI have any such scouting programs?

Does BCCI have any such scouting programs? why bother when the IPL teams do it for you. Any player with some T20ability is gonna get spotted. For red ball, there's Ranji. Cricket today is a well-compensated career even for folks who don't ever make it to the national team or even the IPL. BCCI should shift focus from 'scouting' and into improving ticket-buyers experience. Lord, Sgattick10 and vvvslaxman 3
tapandrun Posted March 10 Posted March 10 In general local cric boards do scout the player, bcci as top organization does not do it as there is no bcci team. Local boards run the trials for age grp cricket select player from there , previosly major cities use to have big schools which use to have their teams and player used to get selected from there. Now that has been replaced by acdemies, as a batter no one can get selected just by trials if , they need some pedigree and batter needs more resources like kit bats and those stuff so its not like one can go and give trial as a batter. For bowler it is easier, some can go register and just bowl and if some1 sees some spark they can be short listed. Gangully didnt scout for the player, all the player gangully brought were in the system what he did he raised above the zonal biases , state biases and picked the best available young talent and asked board for time. That brought the belief in small town/city player if they are good they will be selected and now with IPL if you have talent there is high chances that you will be picked and will get to show what they got. Bhumrah, Umesh and many others are beneficiary of that. vvvslaxman 1
