his xperience at d top of d order is very helpful indeed, but d opening pair of sehwag n gambhir is very much successful as compared to sachin n sehwag also, d team has consistent players like raina yuvraj n dhoni rohit n yusuf can prove handy as well so sachin is not quite required, though he will b missed but it will b a different case when india tackles australia or south africa

for the first one...just two good matches and he's consistent forever..hmmmm Rohit n yousuf talented still not yet a finished article...So why drop the greatest batsman of his generation if he's fit and in good form? for record just check the last 4-5 ODI series'.

Thread bookmarked. I'll bump this once Tendulkar comes and iz zelfish again stands up in the toughest of challenges. And when Rohit proves himself. Don't write off a man on a few ODI failures, Doc. Try looking at SRT's own record some 50 ODIs into his career, or Symonds' ODI numbers up until the day before the 03 World Cup. The class is there, just give it time to come through.

This thread has all the makings of Gambo wishing it never happened ... Iam putting a tenner on this thread quietly vanishing into the dark hole when no-one is looking ... :-D

So chasing a score of around 250 in Australia vs Australia is a cake walk no?

No one denies SRT's greatness, but its time he played test matches only. Maybe he could step in and play prestigious tournaments like the championship trophy but no need to play some mickey mouse tournaments like kitkat, fevicol etc.

I never said any or all batsmen in the current team are better than him. I'm just saying that his services are no longer needed at the top of the order, the only place where he prefers to bat. Sehwag and Gambhir are doing quite well at the top. It would be a shame to shunt either of them down JUST to accomodate him. And since SRT won't bat in the MO, it's futile to compare Raina/Sharma etc with him. The only way I can be proven wrong is if India crash(not make the finals) out of each and every ODI trophy in which he doesn't play, until his retirement.

Come on gambit. You really want to leave sachin out? Do you really reallly? You know that shewag is a couple of ladoos away from a string of low scores! When it really matters sachin is the man like last oz tour and in 2 world cups were he has been the leading run scorer in the tourney. Cant he bat at 3 if you are so desperate for gambhir/shewag opening partnership?

you are saying as though we have a capable batting lineup that can chase 250 ... or set a 250 target IN Aus that too in the FINALS and under lights ?.... without him we would have been soundly beaten .... as it is he scored more than 40% of the Team runs ...
how do you know sehwag couldnt have done the same had he played ?

SRT should make sure he is fit and available for Tests. Tests should be his #1 and #2 priority. ODIs after that, and IPL should be far far below in priority. He shud be selective in playing ODIs - play the important ones against Aus, SA etc. Leave the ones against Bangladesh and Pak etc to others.

Well I can twist the same and ask how do you know Sehwag would indeed have been succesfull ... ? Can never tell unless we are privy to a crystal ball ... but if things like track record ' date=' batting average and technique are to go by then you would agree that if there is anyone that can tame the Aussies its Boss.[/quote'] Even without a crystal ball i can say for sure Sehwag would NOT have been able to produce 2 similar innings. Sachin is a great player. He is the only one who can claim been there done that , then did it again and again .... but no matter how great a player you are every single one of them comes with an expiration date. We will not be able to replace Sachin the player but a group of batsman can minimize his loss. I know Rohit and Raina are unproven against quality attacks and tougher batting conditions but those 2 along with yuvraj, gambhir and dhoni given a longer run, in my opinion can fill the gap created due to loss of Sachin. It has to be done one day why not starting now. Yes we will lose a few games , we will be trashed in a few but thats how we will learn how to win without Sachin. Lets learn something from SL who are just not able to replace Jaya. Save Sachin for test cricket and if he is around till WC 2011 and fit to play he can make a come back then but till then sorry no Sachin for me in ODI.
