I don't think SRT is needed anymore

in ODIs. SRT loves to open and it would be a shame to separate the highly successful p'ship of Gambhir and Sehwag to accomodate SRT. Gambhir's career is now blossoming and making him shunt up and down the order will not be a good move. And surprisingly, Veeru is also starting to bat with 0.1% caution in ODIs which is resulting in him spending more time at the crease and making bigger 50+ scores. If SRT comes back, Veeru will go back to his carefree way of batting which can only mean, at best, a spate of 30s and 40s. Our batting lineup is now starting to take shape with a double cannon opening pair,Suresh Nitro at #3,Prince Yuvi at #4,Mahabali at #5,Sharma at #6 and then either of the Pathans at #7. Since I don't think SRT will want to bat in the middle order, I feel that it won't be worth disrupting Sehwag and GG in order to have him back. He won India a cup in OZ and batted supremely last year against all opposition. Now is the time to walk away.

Blasphemy! :D I think SRT should just play the BIG games, like the knock-out matches in Champions Trophy, Aus ODIs and some important away games. I have no probs with the batting order shifting by one place with Gambhir coming at 3. This is why I said these games are hurting our cricket. It is not just the opposition, but absolute flat patta pitches we are playing on. If SRT can plan properly, hey just may make the 2011. He should drastically sut down on the number of ODIs he plays and even be selective with the Tests.

actually i think we can give rest to Gambhir or Sehwag in some matches... Like Gambhir and Sehwag could have been rested in yesterday's match..and sachin and Uthappa could have been tried.. so yes....now Sachin should concentrate more on his Test Game than on his ODI game... He is already has the status of God in ODIs...none can reach him..even in dreams... so its better to prolong his career and concentrate in tests... But time to time..he should come in as replacement to Either Gambhir or Sehwag to give them so rest from the hectic schedule that we have this year and next year... There is no harm in sachin playing lesser ODIs now... Our ODI team is settled...and let youngesters gain some international experience ...

Gambo, you convinced about Rohit & Uthappa? These two are essentially riding piggyback on the achievements of others. You saw how Uthappa has degenerated to a batsman without basic defensive skills from a chap who could play the new ball in domestic cricket. And with apologies to Salil, Rohit Sharma is the most overhyped batsman in a while. Mediocre domestic record, poor international record, the only defining knock being that 70 he made under Tendulkar's coaxing. If India has better batsmen than Tendulkar to breach the gap, I am yet to see them. Against stronger teams, you can't carry passengers in your side.

Give me a break. These boys are doing well. But h isthe highest ranked indian bater in odis and tests. How quickly people forget what happened in oz, when he virtually won us games on his own. Can raina and co be relied upon to do same. Sachin is our best batsman and our most consistent batter.

But I also want Sach to be with us till at least 2011. For that won't mind if he plays only select few crucial games such as against Aussies, SA, NZ, SL etc. A lot depends on our team management and how well they succeed in preserving the most precious, combat proven veteran of Cricket jagat. Presence of Sach is a MUST if India wants to fancy her chances in 2011.

I don't know about Uthappa but I think Sharma has it in him to do well in 50 over cricket. And in any case, comparing SRT to them is not really relevant because they usually bat in the middle order. My point was that Sehwag and Gambhir should not be separated at the top to accomodate Sachin. We can try many middle order players to replace Uthappa and Sharma if need be(Badrinath,Venu etc).

Of course, he is the best and most consistent but I don't think he is needed anymore. Our current team is and can do well without him. Why use nukes when bows and arrows are winning you the war?

If age is not the sole criteria forselection,I can't see him not picked in the team for a while atleast. Short memory Indian public has...so short. Pity.

The conter point from many of his detractors would be that since the 2011 WC is to be played in the sub continent, these flat track bullies can win it for us...Is Indian cricket all abt that WC?

Srt is still needed in our team regardles of how good the current team is peforming or how well they perform in future. big stages, finalz, crucial games, not always gambhir and sehwag going to bring success. we need to give them rest too once in a while, and why not play SRT, the already proven champ around the world in place of anyone of them??? Tendulkar himself is not too interested to ODI'S. thats for sure. but he really wuold be itching to play in crucial series as much as he loves his test cricket. he didn't bother about playing in tutply cup, rightly so. but as time goes on, and if we see some crucial series, he would be love to be part of, and should be played over any ot her player..
