Travis Head has achieved more than any player has achieved in the last 15 years in multiple formats.  People are focusing more on impact. Not stapadding like some do in finals.

Again no one in their right mind would say Travis Head is better batsman than Root or other great batsmen of this generation.He is not even in in top 10 batsmen. 

 

Winning is a team effort, you need a team to win.

 

Ponting has won more tests and world cups than Lara or Sachin but he is not considered better batsman than either of them.

T20 people care about.  Tests survives only in Australia and England. You could see from empty stadium in tests for India test matches.

We're arguing about different definitions of caring here. Casual fans who can name 5 cricketers in any given calendar year but still flood the ipl games obviously exist in massive majority numbers everywhere but they are not the ones worrying about the existential questions like who's a great batsman, who's merely a very good batsman, who's an all time legend etc. I'm 99% sure if you conduct a poll for who's better Bradman or Thala outside chepauk, Thala will win with super majority but none of us here care about those opinions. In fact you'll be the first one to make fun of casuals, come ipl season when they're shouting Thala when csk needs 40 of 6.

 

Sporting records only have any value because of people who like to compile lists every other weekend and argue about them. And that subset among cricket fans still believe that test cricket separates wheat from chaff. Its like cinephiles discussing about which is better Godfather or Citizen kane and someone replies akshually Tinpot-man 4 made ten gorillion dollars so that's the greatest movie

Those records are mostly meant in India. You could see how they slow down for 100s. People have stopped caring about these records except PR guys for current players . Look at the PR teams putting out stats for every current player. They bombard you with stats Rohit fans, Gill fans, Samson fans, Kohli fan,s Babar fans.  I have become numb to stats these days. It is just meaningless.  Especially ODI records. Look at Babar Azam. He averages 53 at a strike rate of 87. That is 9 points better than Sachin. Stats have bcome farcical.

You only proved that LOI records are losing relevance. Babar is about to break Kohli's most T20 runs record and hardly any kohli fan is stressed about it. But if Babar's test runs ever come close to Kohli's runs there will be a huge discourse for sure

Not really. For me all statistical records are the same.  It is not like the first time "most runs" record gets broken. It probably got broken 100s of times. Only reason this may get some attention is because it is an English batsman who breaks and the record he is about to break is an Indian record. Both are masters of hyping things. That will settle down after a while. Tendulkar has been holding this record for a long time. Does anyone even talk about it?

People are talking about it right now. I understand that you don't care about aggregates but a lot of people do care about them. Literally every single podcast that is covering the ashes talked about the possibility of breaking that record today, both aussie and english comms are discussing it
