Its appears our jags did well in op sindoor.

Can see why india imported jets to cannabalise and keep fleet intact until 2035.

Surprisingly robust missile inventory. Enough for striking pak from within indian territory.

Biggest surprise for me is that Su30MKI is integrated with Hammer and Rampage. I thought Israeli - Russia integration was a challenge, but seems India has found a way to integrate them.

News is about Astra mk1 & mk2 range enhancement to 160 & 240km respectively. That gives IAF enough teeth and formidable advantage against Pak Air force. Astra mk2 will probably outclass any BVR currently PAF has.

Just want to see Rafale get success with Astra as well. Will save us costly Meteor missiles

We have significant control over MKI's.. I thought it was well established.  That's why Israeli standoff weapons are being bought.  Rampage was a huge success in op Sindoor that revealed in May itself.

Very true.

We need 600km + air to surface missiles with a solid air defence.

Desi and export missiles. Deviates from the need of modern tech.

I hope, IAF & MoD with HAL are working on Plan "B" as well, if GE F404 pipeline doesnt materialise, then instead of waiting for engines...restart the Su30MKI pipeline at full swing.

HAL is already working for 12 new airframes as a replacement of Sukhois which were lost due to crashes. These new airframes will have longer life and better radar and avionics. I dont see any reason to not expand the production line to additional "x" numbers. One Su30MKI is anyway more capable than 3 Tejas mk1a (though more costly as well).

Brahmos ER is one candidate with potential upto 800km, legendary Su30MKI will carry it.

Super Sukhoi CCS clearance is need of the hour tbh.  MoD needs to wake up and start fixing the IAF.  Control the controllables.

Mk1a is a doomed project with HAL being a incompetent typical sarkari baboon organisation.

IMO, Super Sukhoi will start once we get those additional 12 Sukhois in IAF.

IAF cant afford to send more jets for long haul. They need replacements, be it in the form of Tejas mk1a.

Sending squadron by squadron Sukhois is the way to go, but before that they need the alternatives to hold the fort.

Rafales arent gonna come before 2030, so Tejas mk1a is their last hope.

Thats when the recently signed def partnership with UAE will come handy.

IAF trains with them and may lease their Rafale aircrafts in case a contingency arises.

5 m1a to be delivered by march.

Missile trials going on.

I think we should have squadran by end of 2026.

HAL's incompetence aside.. it took 3 months for 5th engine to come in December.

Realistically I think not more than 10 will be delivered.  That too if we get lucky.

they are saying the USA-India deal will be signed soon.

GE is ramping up its engine production in general.

Astra integration testing is pending, final test scheduled in Feb.

Post that, IAF & HAL may take a call.

GE will continue to delay under instructions from its Lord, unless we do something with Kaveri soon. Once Kaveri is as capable as F404, GE will immediately fold over.

DRDO Confirms Astra Mk2 Range Extension to 240 km, IAF Induction Expected by End of This Year https://defence.in/threads/drdo-confirms-astra-mk2-range-extension-to-240-km-iaf-induction-expected-by-end-of-this-year.16727/

Astra mk1 range is bumped from 110 to 160, mk2 bumped from 160 to 200 to now 240 km.

This make Astra mk1 competitive and mk2 ahead of the BVR combat with PAF.

Mk3 will be a big leap. Focus should be on integrating them with Rafales, Sukhois, Tejas and Migs so that they can combat the adversary without leaving the airspace.

Pak bound by geography..

Beyond a threshold of range will cover all their bases.

Bvr you need 350 odd to cover pak. Most other missiles 500 to 600km
