Bumrah's workload management logic just doesn't add up. He goes missing again.

I am very happy that in the last 1 month, Gurnoor and Ashok have debuted for India and Mayank has been brought back. 

 

This is great going.

I dint watch the England ODIs. But most times I see him bowl in LOIs these days, he’s high 130s and his quick ones are mostly 139-142 with the odd one at 144. In his years of prime fitness, that was 139-143k usual pace with quite a few 145-147/148 (not just 1/2). So the difference is not like he’s down to 135 from 145 but it perceptible in my eyes. And in tests, I’m pretty confident he doesn’t sustain pace anymore if he survives more than 2 matches in a row. In comparison, Starc can maintain high pace till his 4/5th match. 

 

Im glad Mayank performed but I still see low ceiling guys like Prince / Arshdeep / Thakur being preferred n higher up in the hierarchy.

They need to do more. Laxman grabbed the first opportunity to drop Ashok. Luckily he got a chance again as Prince got injured. Else would have been Umran 2.0. Still I’m not confident these guys will get the exposure at the highest level. I have much higher expectations. 

Also get in Tyagi. Don’t be content destroying Umrans career. Give him some damn opportunities too…

Many of the greatest bowlers have done that in later stages of their career. Mcgrath, pollock, even steyn etc. They develop new skills and tricks based on experience and are sometimes more effective despite losing few kph of pace.

Bumrah played 2 ODIs recently after almost 3 years. 

 

So the LOI bowling you remember are T20s only.

 

And Bumrah bowls his slowest in T20s these days. Especially in the IPL. 

 

While he has been quick enough in tests.

Siraj goes missing if Bumrah plays .. Akashdeep is meh ! .. Prasidh is coming of age only from last test in England.

 

I hope support from Gurnoor and Prasidh 2.0 will allow Bumrah to be quicker later in the series.

True, current bunch of selectors are putting an effort to bring in tall, fast pacers. Previous generation were salivating for Avesh-Mukesh, Unadkut, Khaleel, Harshal. Kept them playing games after games despite knowing they're useless and hopelessly mediocre.

Yes he barely plays any ODIs lately. Most bilaterals he’s rested unless it’s important - and I’m totally fine with it. But glad that he maintained high pace against England.

Yes a gang of strong pacers will help him relax, be free and not be over-bowled. Personally I would just play him 2 matches in a row max regardless and then ask him to bowl full throttle without over bowling him.

I keep a note of bowling speeds of our quicks after every match.

The last TM and selectors are responsible for this long transition phase in fast bowling.  

 

Despite seeing that Ishant and Umesh were done and Shami was on his last legs, they did not back or truly groom a single 140 k+ pacer.

The key issue is how many of them will maintain the fitness to be usable in longer formats. Historically most of these tend to max out at four overs per game after which they tend to pick up injuries.

It depends on whether they have sufficient FC matches under their belts.

 

Gurnoor and Prasidh do.

 

Ashok was a regular in this FC season too.

 

I have more hope on these 3. 

 

Harshit will end up being a white ball No.8 in all probability.

 

Want Mayank and Tyagi to play FCC regularly from now on.
