after you finish with the city take a day trip to long island .i also recommend taking a wine tour.

If you're planning to see the Statue of Liberty, as BB said, buying ticket online can save on waiting time of upto an hour and a half. Since you're going on a weekday, it may not be that bad. If possible, take the open-top bus ride which starts near the Madison Square Garden/Penn station that takes you around the downtown. The good thing is, you can get-off any spot, look around and then catch the next bus back to your starting point.

What about the much-publicized dosa dude - Thiru Kumar? http://nymag.com/listings/restaurant/ny_dosas/ I don't live in NY and the couple of times I have visited have not tasted the dosas, but he is obviously popular.
