BTW Chappell should think 1000 times before calling anyone selfish. He is the most selfish person in the history of the game. His own country feels ashamed of him even today, years after that shameful act of selfishness. He should be the last person to point fingers at others. Link to comment

Kartikey
^ Which other #6 player averages 50 ? Its not about any other player, he should be averaging over 50 because of his talent. He makes the prettiest 30's and 40's you will ever see, but he doesnt take it further. I agree sometimes he is stuck with the tail but still.......oh and he should be batting above Dada. msb1991
Replacing the Big Three Hi, Just wondering if you think the replacement of the Big Three could really cause a major period of decline for Indian Test cricket - we are currently seeing the effects of them out of form; will the effect of new batsmen out of their depth be the same? The talent is there to replace them in Parthiv and Badrinath; but the cluenessness of the selectors could cause the ignoring of the latter and profiling the former as a wicket keeper rather than a batsman and, who can be the third middle order batsman who can come in? The selectors want to back Rohit Sharma (:nervous:) who has a poor FC record; or Mohammad Kaif, whose FC record is merely average. Will the inform talent of Mithun Manhas, Cheteshwar Pujara (as a middle order batsman, damnit - not an opener!) and Manoj Tiwary be ignored in favour of those who have performed in OD cricket? Or will the selectors be able to handle the transition, furthermore, will even our best talent be able to handle carrying the entire Test middle order in about 3 years? Link to comment
SachDan
msb don't worry about finding three replacements...Sach for sure will carry on for another couple more years and rightly so. Link to comment

CSK Fan
He needs to deliver. This has been a forgettable series for him so far with just one innings left to redeem himself. Two bad series like this against Australia and England and it'd be difficult to imagine him retaining his place against Pakistan. he is averaging 50 this year. Surely he is allowed ONE bad series as Sehwag is? Link to comment
fineleg
Fab 4 performance in Sri Lanka Test series Big letdown. If not for Sehwag's brilliant 200*, I think SL would be 2-0 by now. Will atleast one of the Fab 4 score a 100 in 2nd Inn? :eyedance: Link to comment
Desi Cartman
It's been 2 years of mediocrity for Dravid. Doubt if he could continue if not for his coziness with Kumble. Ganguly looks completely out of depth. No place for him either. VVS and Sachin deserve a place owing to their creditable show in Australia. One bad series is excusable. Agree 100% but it makes me nervous that we may be trying 2 new batsmen against the Aussies ... Link to comment

Fontaine
Yes and no. We do have the talent but like all talent it needs to be developed and honed. The biggest drawback for the new breed of batsmen is going to be how to cope with conditions outside India (domestic tracks are flatter than Natalie Portman's chest). This is why the single biggest boost to our team for the future, both in bowling and batting will be if our domestic cricket structure has balanced pitches which will sort out the batsmen, pretenders from the classy enough players who can handle less than perfect batting conditions. I know it's a poor example because of the situation around it, but it's a lot like the Tiwary situation when he was brought in quickly for an ODI match in Australia and got schooled like a blind midget by Brett Lee's pace and agression. I see a lot more of that for our young batsmen unless the domestic structure changes and ditto for the bowlers. The best way to ease the retirement of our great seniors is for the bowlers to make more of an impact, which they have been doing, but in the two years our young bowlers have to mature and they can only do that on foreign tours where the conditions help bowlers as well. That's simply not enough. I expect India to be a much better ODI side because we have raw power hitters like Dhoni and Yuvrag with the likes of Sehwag/Gambhir at the top, but along the test environment? I'm skeptical.
