Texy Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 New Delhi: The lifting of the ban on the Students' Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) on Tuesday came as a body blow to the intelligence and security agencies that are probing its involvement in a series of terror blasts in Jaipur, Bangalore and Ahmedabad that killed hundreds of people. “We have not seen the judgement yet but it is a complete shock to us. I can't believe this can happen. The decision has really came at the wrong time when we are in hot pursuit of SIMI members in the country,†a top Intelligence Bureau (IB) official said. “Investigations suggest the hand of SIMI activists in recent terror bombings in the country. The decision will send a wrong message down the line,†the official added. Another IB official said, “We have not been informed about the judgement. But it is a big setback for the security agencies which are battling terrorism.†A top Delhi Police official, requesting anonymity, said, “We have provided adequate information to the tribunal (that lifted the ban) and the decision is very surprising. It will badly affect us in the long run in the fight against terrorism.†“We fear that SIMI activists would raise their head again, and this time it would be an open peril for everyone,†warned the official. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity as they are not authorised to officially comment on any court judgement. A special tribunal headed by Justice Geeta Mittal Tuesday lifted the ban on SIMI, citing lack of any fresh evidence against the organization. Mishra is a sitting Delhi High Court judge. SIMI had challenged the two-year ban re-imposed on it by the central government Feb 7, 2008. The tribunal was specially constituted to decide whether or not there was sufficient cause for declaring SIMI an unlawful association. SIMI was first banned in 2001 under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the ban has been renewed thrice since then. When it was outlawed, SIMI had 400 full-time cadres and 20,000 members. It claims a national presence with strong bases in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Assam. SIMI was founded in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, in 1977 by Mohammad Ahmadullah Siddiqi as an offshoot to the Jamaat-e-Islami. The organisation advocates the "liberation of India" and restoring Islamic rule. It witnessed slow growth even in Muslim dominated areas until December 1992 when the demolition of the Babri mosque in Ayodhya sparked one of the worst Hindu-Muslim violence in the country since independence in 1947.
punjabi_khota Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Either this is a proof of incompetence of the investigation agencies, or maybe the tribunal was hand picked by p-sec govt.
DomainK Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 I have little doubt that apart from huge cash changing hands, political influence has been used for this. The intelligence would do well to start investigating justice Geeta Mittal and finding out who all she met in the last few days, track her calls down and cross check her bank balances. Though I doubt any evidence will be found.
beetle Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Supreme court stays the lifting of the ban...seems like supreme court is the only sane institution in this country where criminals are rulers. Mean while those sobs Laloo and Mulayam yadav support simi....these two should be sent to jail to let them rot!b^^&&&*s!
sandtest Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Mean while those sobs Laloo and Mulayam yadav support simi....these two should be sent to jail to let them rot!b^^&&&*s! Not possible...Both Mulayam and Laloo have saved their face by welcoming the supreme court decision. Mulayam's pet criminal goondas in UP like Ateeq Ahmed are already at odds with party because capitalist Amar Singh supported evil Amreeka's Nuke deal :hysterical: I sense Samajwadi party will loose considerable chunk of Muslim votes in next elections, and rightly so, but I am not surprised that ignorant rural Muslims consider America as against Islam :giggle:
sandtest Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Congress too saved it's face in this case by immediately appealing in Supreme Court. Sonia Manio appointed poodle judges of Supreme Court made sure that decision is given within 24 hours. This all looks pretty well planned -- Congress before elections wanted to ban SIMI but at the same time don't want to loose any further Muslim vote bank. So Home Ministry presented a very weak case in high court, thereby lifting SIMI ban. But then it will cause a fire among Indians and Congress will loose all it's credibility....so Congress ensured that Supreme Court overturns the decision of high court. This will send a message to Congress supporting Muslims that -- look it's not we who have banned islamic organization, it's SUPREME COURT. Well done Congress and well done Sonia. -- this proves why India will continue succumbing to terror because even a small decision like banning an anti-nation organization requires so much parade.:hatsoff:
Texy Posted August 6, 2008 Author Posted August 6, 2008 anyone who supports SIMI ...whether it's based on political reasons or whatever is a TRAITOR to the country and should be given death penalty. Why can't RAW hire underworld goons and knock off Mulayam singh yadav.....and then encounter the underworld guy....case finished!
Sachinism Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 anyone who supports SIMI ...whether it's based on political reasons or whatever is a TRAITOR to the country and should be given death penalty. Why can't RAW hire underworld goons and knock off Mulayam singh yadav.....and then encounter the underworld guy....case finished! true, its impossible to support their retarded causes bunch of brainwashed imbeciles
Laaloo Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 true, its impossible to support their retarded causes bunch of brainwashed imbeciles sorry for being ignorant, but who are they? What is their agenda?
THX_1138 Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 What we must understand here is that while we might know from circumstantial evidence that SIMI is involved in activities that are subversive and contrary to national security, unless criminal charges have been level against members of the organization (which i believe were), the organization is protected under the constitution. furthermore, if anyone can, could you post the brief from the court's verdict.
THX_1138 Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Either this is a proof of incompetence of the investigation agencies' date=' or maybe the tribunal was hand picked by p-sec govt.[/quote'] judges are appointed, not selected for particular trials. the only participation of the executive and legislative branches in the judicial branch of the government is confirmation of appointees. thereafter, the three branches are mutually exclusive and immune.
THX_1138 Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 I have little doubt that apart from huge cash changing hands' date=' political influence has been used for this. The intelligence would do well to start investigating justice Geeta Mittal and finding out who all she met in the last few days, track her calls down and cross check her bank balances. Though I doubt any evidence will be found.[/quote'] such investigating would bring upon the advent of a police state, like the days from the emmergency imposed by indira gandhi. as citizens, one must learn to acknolwedge the outcome of the judicial process, and if you are unhappy or unsatisfied with the court's verdict, persue it through the right channels. i.e. appeal in a supreme court. how would you like the intelligence bureau investigating into your life style because some decision you made on your job adversely contradicts one of their agendas.
THX_1138 Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 curious... where does SIMI receive money from? i doubt its members have much disposable cash.

Don't be so naive.. fixing book is easy.. any two piece accountant can do that job.. How do u think despite presence of serious limit on the money that can be spent on politcal campaign, MPS/MLAs spend 100 times of the said limit....
Texy Posted August 7, 2008 Author Posted August 7, 2008 New article on SIMI Aasim Khan CNN-IBN Yasin Patel has no qualms admitting to his SIMI links. "In 1983 in Jamiat-ul-Falah Azamgarh, I joined as an initial member. And in 1987, I became an Ansar which was the basic membership," he says. For this 40-year-old US Green Card holder, and for many youth like him, SIMI's ideology proved more attractive than any other. They don't smoke, they don't drink, they don't go after girls. They are just so serious about how to improve themselves and how to improve the condition of the country," says he. SIMI started as the Muslim Students Organisation in university towns like Aligarh in the late 70s. But over the years the group acquired extremely radical stances on issues like Chechenya, Palestine and invasion of Iraq. Another reason why the group appeared more subversive than any other was its vocabulary, which was littered with words like Jehad. Community leaders feel lack of guidance is what proved disastrous for SIMI. Edtior The Milli Gazette, Zafar-ul-Islam says, "You see the problem with SIMI is that in the beginning they were supervised by Jamiat-e-Islami. The problem is that very soon they saw it as a burden and didn't want any supervision from elders. They started doing whatever they wanted and since they were young people, they they got carried away by the freedoms that India offers - you can print anything, publish anything and express your views." The demolition of the Babri Masjid was a turning point. And in the aftermath of the 1993 Mumbai blasts there were clear signs that some elements of SIMI had crossed the thin line between activism and terrorism. Yasin Patel ended up by paying a very heavy price for his association with SIMI. From 2002 to 2004, he spent over two years in Tihar Jail after he was charged with sedition. But he remains convinced SIMI is not what many believe. "I haven't changed a bit, becasue what I have embraced it as the best in the world. You tell me this is illegal, I will quit it. I used to smoke I quit it, I used to do other things but I quit them all because of SIMI," Yasin Patel says. Anti-Nationals or just fall guys? SIMI actvists now look more like revolutionaries without a revolution to attend.
