fineleg Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Why do they do it immediately after a swim? http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/beijing/blog/fourth_place_medal/post/The-mystery-of-the-showering-divers?urn=oly,100472
triam Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Divers shower in between each dive to keep their muscles warm after getting out of the pool. The temperature of the pool water and the air are usually different (the pool is usually around 80 degrees, with the air temperature between 68 and 72 degrees). This difference can cause muscle tightness. To combat this, divers warm up in either the showers or a hot tub. from here http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/beijing/blog/fourth_place_medal/post/The-mystery-of-the-showering-divers?urn=oly,100472

fineleg Posted August 14, 2008 Author Posted August 14, 2008 still begs the question why do it in front of the cameras and audience, can they not do it privately?
Sachinism Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 The showers are out there in public, its not their fault the cameraman keeps filming them maybe they want to stay out for their scores or something and watch the other divers
DomainK Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 And why make it private anyways? Any particular reason for that?
fineleg Posted August 15, 2008 Author Posted August 15, 2008 And why make it private anyways? Any particular reason for that? Err, because its showering, and typically its a private act. I mean, yes there is this "gym room funda" and all that, but even that is not public, public. If you ask why make it private, then you can ask why make anything private anyways?

Fineleg, its not bathing (which obviously is always private). Its just a shower in the same clothes that they were wearing for the event itself. They just are already wet, they are already in swimming suits. All they do is stand below a shower and let the water wash off the water from the pool. They are not soaping themselves, they are not stripping anymore. Its the same as swimming, isnt it?
fineleg Posted August 15, 2008 Author Posted August 15, 2008 Domaink, Fair enough. I'll accept your point.
beetle Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 Showering in public is naughty!Even with the swimsuits on....
