Makes me wonder how many Canadians are more educated about the US election than they are of the Canadian one.
Why does it matter? Canadian Election! ya right, hmm..I vote Liberal

Saw the last 20 mins of the debate. My fleeting impressions; Obama seems to have better grip of issues that he thinks that are important for tomorrow's America, stuff like Education, healthcare, investment into Research, green Technology, getting America a good name again, projecting the military might to other parts of the world, rather than just Iraq and Afghanistan. .
The key term here is "seems to." The guy twists facts and gets away with it like no other. His charming manner has fooled the most intelligent of people, and that is the real pity here. http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/09/fact-check-obam.html http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/09/fact-check-kiss.html He's just another one of them. His "speaking up" against the Iraq war when he didn't have a vote and bringing it up every other day is amusing. His voting for the troop surges, and then turning around and calling them a failure when it is clear that it has worked, and then turning around again when chastised and praising Gen. Petreaus (sp?) is even more amusing. I'll give you one thing - the man will make a great preacher. His talent for playing with words is unsurpassed. I laughed when he was talking about the bailout, he said something about supporting a plan "..... with the possibility of getting the taxpayers money back." All in the name of nuance. As for all the issues you are bringing up, mm, it was irrelevant for this debate. This one was supposed to be about foreign policy.

I would love to see Sarah Palin and Joe Biden face off in a battle that pits a Washington veteran against a total novice. And to be honest, today's debate was a bit boring really. There werent that many heated discussions, nor were there too many punches and counter-punches. Thats understandable though, this is the first debate and both candidates would have been just testing waters.
Expect Biden to bend Palin over mid-debate and proceed to bugger her bunghole. That is the measure of the gulf between their skills, experience and chutzpah of the republicans to prop this moose-hunting redneck against a career politician.

Said the Canadian citizen. :P PS. I think I'm slowly turning into a commie and converting to NDP. The interest in this election is a true testament to the scope of American media machine. I mean, I acknowledge that what goes on in the US has an effect on the whole world but this level of interest we see here can't be attributed to just that.

CA, I just saw the whole debate, for the first time. What I have seen, is a fundamental difference in the mindset of the two. Obama seems much more in-tune with reality that exists today and seems to have the will to compromise on many issues, be it economy, Iran or Russia. McCain is the quintessential old-school politician, with pre-fixed mindsets on almost every issue. Sample this for their different position, atleast vis-a-vis global geopolitics. On Iraq, Obama wants to withdraw all troops in 16 months, while McCain wants to stay the course. On Iran, Obama is open to the prospect of direct govt-govt talks between Iran and the U.S, while McCain is opposed to that concept. Obama wants to renew the thrust in Afghanistan, while McCain is largely non-committal about it. Obama wants increased thrust on energy security, while McCain sees offshore drilling as the one-touch solution to all of America's energy problems. At the least, Obama is suggesting some new approaches, MCcain just seems to be the same old tactics, bundled under a new name. As a non-US, impartial, global citizen, I would rather have Obama than McCain. But its one thing to talk what you want to do, but an entirely different matter to walk it.

Debate ..who won? I think whole of America was talking about who won the debate. The media is so much after spinning, it felt like a high school debate class on Sat. WTF! I think Obama was more of a stateman than McCain who played it to the Conservative gallery and played it tough. He seemed very condescending to Obama in view of an indepenedent voter.

Have to agree with Lurker . Obama was too defensive .He wasn't bad ,but wasn't good either . He allowed Mccain to attack him ,like a school kid to headmaster . Mccain as usual ''I am a maverick .... and always had that expression ,''how the heck this kid stand in front of me''.Very arrogant and full of attitude . He is really irked that he couldn't get the debate postponed .
