Chandan
In a way it is good that these Ranji ODs are played at zonal level only. And it says that we are already paying more importance to Deodhar trophy which have just 5 zonal teams, ie, only 75 players participating it in. But even then favouritism etc is spoiling it completely as we include guys like Arjun Yadav even in the zonal team. Don't tell me that only 14 players are better than him in the entire zone? But despite all these, the substandard facilities, pitches etc are spoiling things and can never help in improving the talent. Absence of international players is also not helping. Australia and England international players are playing in the country throughout their domestic season. In this way, if any player not chosen in XI is released to play for his state side. Not so for India. And it hurts the domestic cricket. Link to comment

The Outsider
These are way too many matches in a day to follow! I tried for the first round but gave up - maybe they should reduce the number of teams by merging a few. Link to comment

Wonder what kind of name is that? :hmmm: Suthesh? (Rangaraj Suthesh) - is that a numerology variation of Suresh!? or he just 'suthufies' a lot while batting (that means like wildly swishing your bat around that tailenders do while batting) and hence called suthesh! Chandan
These are way too many matches in a day to follow! I tried for the first round but gave up - maybe they should reduce the number of teams by merging a few. Where did you try to follow Shwetabh? All we can do is check the scorecards and see how the players, who we think are good ones, did and who were the standouts in the match. Result hardly matters. So for the List A matches, Deodhar trophy is a better guide or even it is not so. Reducing the number of teams is impossible as none of the state teams will agree. Bihar refused to be merged with Jharkhand, even if that meant it not participating in the domestic championship. So many teams have undermined our domestic cricket terribly and on top of that, BCCI not giving importance to Zone-wise tournament is another worry. On that account, you can say that the selectors have a daunting task. Anyway, here is some news round-up of Day 5: Mannu-scripts win over Delhi Ajay Mani stars for HP in Delhi's humbling Himachal downs Delhi TN continues its dominance TN, Andhra and Hyderabad register victories Orissa beat Jharkhand in Ranji Trophy one-dayer Haryana beat Services by 2 wickets Punjab back on track with win over J-K Pujara, Jogiyani set up Saurashtra win Mumbai beat Maharashtra by 7 wickets And finally an article about the poor facilities in the tournament: Height of irresponsibility in not preparing the pitch . Sachinism
All heli breaks loose You've heard of cricket matches being stopped for rain, injuries and even streakers. But this is a first. The Ranji one-dayer between Punjab and Services on Saturday was stopped for a full 26 minutes when a private airline's helicopter landed bang in the middle of the Indira Stadium. Yes, you read it right. A helicopter landed in the ground. Read full story here Link to comment

ludhianvi
All heli breaks loose Read full story here As bizarre as it sounds, the pilot apparently mistook the 'H' sign — which stands for the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association — at the north end of the ground as a helipad! To add to the confusion, a fire had broken out near the stadium, the smoke from which, the pilot misinterpreted as smoke signals. :hysterical: Link to comment
fineleg
Such was the force of the copter's rotors that the sightscreen at the pavilion end of the ground was shredded to pieces, while the cameras in pace for the BCCI coach umpire were destroyed. Amidst the chaos, out came a man from the copter, seemingly oblivious of the mayhem his pilot had caused. He was there to look for the additional district magistrate. In fact, it was only when the HPCA officials had told the pilot had landed at a cricket ground, did he realise error in judgement. Sources said the helicopter was on a trial flight to a helipad in Guglehar village where the Himachal Pradesh chief minister was scheduled to land on Monday. Meanwhile, match referee Brijender Singh said the matter would be reported :D to the BCCI. As far as the damage to the BCCI equipment was concerned, Singh said the matter would be dealt with between the BCCI and the HPCA Link to comment
