Look out for both these players. Indians are generally very generous against the new comers and I won't be surprised if both these players are a hit in the upcoming test series.
Which players are you referring to Ravi? I suppose only Guptill is the debutant, if he is chosen in the playing XI.

More... Cricket: Martin joins squad, backed by Vettori 4:00AM Sunday Mar 15, 2009 By Dylan Cleaver Chris Martin has India in his sights. Chris Martin will be bowling for his international future in the nets at Seddon Park. The 34-year-old paceman was included in New Zealand's 13 for the first test against India starting in Hamilton on Wednesday, on the say-so of captain Daniel Vettori, who was included, along with coach Andy Moles, in the selection meeting. Earlier in the season, Vettori had embarrassed the panel led by Glenn Turner and also including Dion Nash, John Wright and most recently Mark Greatbatch, by saying he felt Martin was the best seamer in the country, even though he had been excluded from his side to face the West Indies. On that occasion, Mark Gillespie was preferred and responded by taking 0-102 in Dunedin and was dropped for the second test. The word is that at least two of the selectors - Turner and Nash - are still convinced Martin has lost his zip and do not believe he should be included at Hamilton. They have allowed him a place in the squad and want Vettori to assess his performance in the nets before he and Moles make a final decision on the playing 11. Martin last played for New Zealand in Australia, where he took six relatively expensive wickets in the two tests. However, his dropping for the West Indies series seemed hasty, but the belief is he is not just a little slower than at his peak but a lot slower. Holding him back also was a growing frustration that, with Iain O'Brien establishing himself in the 11 with a set of consistent displays, when New Zealand were eight down, they were effectively all out. Neither O'Brien nor Martin are great fielders and the selectors were reluctant to carry two players with, as the current vernacular goes, single skill-sets. The right-armer did not help his case in Queenstown, where Auckland are playing Otago in the State Championship. On a helpful wicket, Martin's 16 overs created 0-60. In contrast, former New Zealand bowler Daryl Tuffey took 4-32 from 21.5 overs. New Zealand squad: Daniel Vettori ©, Tim McIntosh, Martin Guptill, Daniel Flynn, Ross Taylor, Jesse Ryder, James Franklin, Brendon McCullum, Kyle Mills, Jeetan Patel, Iain O'Brien, Brent Arnel, Chris Martin. Cricket: Franklin ready to seize allrounder role against India James Franklin approaches the extension of his role as Jacob Oram's stand-in with renewed vigour, having moved on from an unremarkable return to international cricket against the West Indies earlier this summer More... Franklin ready to seize allrounder role Published: 6:53PM Monday March 16, 2009 Source: NZPA James Franklin approaches the extension of his role as Jacob Oram's stand-in with renewed vigour, having moved on from an unremarkable return to international cricket against the West Indies earlier this summer. Franklin has again been designated as New Zealand's allrounder for the three-match series against India: a task he completed with scant satisfaction when the West Indies toured here in December. The 28-year-old barely featured in the two-match stalemate, perhaps unsurprising as he was making his return from extensive knee surgery. Franklin contributed nine runs in three innings batting at the specialist role of seven and three wickets at 59.66; the major concern given there was a patent lack of venom or shape in his left arm swing bowling. Three months on, he contemplates his second Test assignment with a greater degree of confidence. "I've had a lot more cricket through my body now," he said, comparing his physical state now to late last year. "I think body-wise it's a lot more hardened being at the back end of the season." He also felt he was bowling with more zip and penetration - even if his first class figures remain unflattering. While he averages 69 with the bat in the State Championship, he has only 14 wickets at 45. "I think the pace is getting better," he said. "Playing domestic cricket there's no speed gun radars, you can't really judge it but talking to (Wellington keeper) Chris Nevin over the last couple of days, he's been pretty happy about the way the ball has been coming through on what has been a pretty flat pitch at McLean Park." Franklin joined the Test squad late on Sunday night from Napier after playing the latest round of the championship against Central Districts; a match that indicated his batting is still clearly his forte after he produced 76 and an unbeaten 107. Picked as an injured Oram's replacement against the West Indies after amassing 448 domestic runs for Wellington in the early rounds of the four-day competition, Franklin's run flow has remained constant through the summer. He scored 306 in the State Shield at 51.00 had more success against England A. Franklin, who has been in a good batting space since his career-best 219 against Auckland in November, could offer little explanation. "My focus on batting this season hasn't changed. I've just been able to get myself in and the runs have been coming," he said. India's ability to produce runs at a rapid clip has not gone unnoticed either since their arrival here, as Franklin prepares for his first experience bowling to the quality of Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. Spared his fellow bowler's floggings in the one-day series, Franklin also carries no lingering psychological damage into the Tests. Although he made his Test and ODI debuts in 2001, he has never encountered India during a 23-Test and 65-ODI career often beset by injury. "I don't have a history against them and they don't have a history against me so things start from afresh," he said. Franklin only maintained a watching brief on an ODI series dominated by the Indian strokemakers - though what he saw was representative. "It's hard not to notice what they've been up to in the last couple of weeks, that's powerful batting line-up." However, Franklin was encouraged by India's capitulation in the dead rubber at Eden Park on Saturday night, although they will be bolstered by Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman. "We've seen if we can get a little bit of pace and bounce in the wicket maybe we can expose the Indian batsmen when the ball is jumping around a bit," he said. "If it's low and slow and fairly docile we know the Indians are well and truly used to that from back home." Both sides surveyed a wicket with a distinctive green tinge today, though it was still to be shorn one last time. Mercifully, from a batting perspective, it bears little resemblance to the wicket produced for the last Test between these sides at the venue. In December 2002, a pace bowler's paradise saw both teams fail to make 100 in their first innings before New Zealand prevailed by four wickets, chasing 160.

If thats the Kiwi Top 5' date= i think Bhajji might prove more than a handful here, coz other than Taylor, very few are capable of handling top quality spin bowling,

Flynn got a half century, Ryder scored a hundred, Martin Guptill had a decent knock in the second inning and O'Brien picked up three wickets including Rahul and Tendulkar. Southee should have been included in the squad and India would have given him a couple of wickets or three :winky: Despite all this India did well with the bat and ball. Won't say much about fielding but this is a comprehensive win.

Southee will be in...what about Oram? Is he going to make it into the squad? Any news?
Oram had ruled himself out, coz he felt he wasnt match bowling fit, i would forsee Jeetan Patel in the Team in case O'Brien misses out and Southee should defn come in for Kyle Mills who has been rubbish since his injury return

oh thx, didnt know that. the kiwis..oops the black caps are truly effed without him.they dont have an ability to take 20 wickets
I dont think we need to count them out yet, a green top at Napier with India Batting First, possibly anything could happen, thou i feel we are much better equipped to handle whatever was dished out in 02'
