Psychological benefit for Pakistan to the lead of T20 World Cup

Recommended Posts

Pakistan team coach Intikhab Alam is certain that the sessions held by a sports psychologist with the team players will help them to be psychologically ready to handle the pressure in the ICC Twenty20 World Cup 09 in England. Sports psychologist Maqbool Bari held one to one sessions with the selected players on the sidelines of practice matches in Lahore last week besides conducting group therapy. He was also supposed to have sessions with players during the conditioning camp in Bhurban earlier this month but the idea was dropped by the board because of the heavy fees demanded by Bari. Intikhab pointed out that there was nothing much to separate between teams like Pakistan, India, Australia or South Africa in the T20 World Cup. Pakistan have also designated former Test batsman Basit Ali to work with the batsmen in Lahore for the World Cup. Captain Younus Khan noted that Basit's sessions had helped identify minor technical glitches in the batsmen and also made them more alert of their fault and how to conquer them.

Sports psychology will never be the same again. If, ten years from now, you are visiting a remote monastry in Lhasa, and find a dozen or so dishevelled, bearded men emerge from a nearby cave, wondering if it's safe to come out and practice again, be certain that you have stumbled upon a band of sports psychologists who disappeared in 2009, because they could not bear to see their trade thus besmirched.

Best of luck to Bari with his hard yards...oops, donkey work. I also like the slogan. In the glorious tradition of "Just do it"...."No fear"...."It's now or never", the padosis have come up with their own earth shattering team motto. It's " Aaj chad jani hai, bhen****". Raw talent allied with assinine passion. Can't keep them down, can you?

Psychological help to get used to thrashings??? Pakistan need to bring back some ICL players and do something about their fast bowling. Sohail Tanvir is good but always I hear is Shoaib, Asif and Gul. Pakistan needs to get over the fact that Shoaib is pretty much finished and so is Asif. Gul is all right but not the one you would reckon will be one of the top bowlers or is among one of the top bowlers. The new lad (what's his name) looks sharp and promising but even Shoaib Akthar and Asif did once upon a time. We know where they have ended up now. Unless Pakistan cricket can handle these up coming youngsters well and guide them Pakistan cricket will go nowhere. I don't reckon talent can drain this quickly but it is the set up that doesn't help recognize and nourish good young talent I reckon.

Pakistan supporters/former cricketers/fans genuinely believe T20 cricket is in their blood. Their temperament suits T20 more than any other team. This is the general thinking they have. But every format is going to evolve. Other teams have evolved over a period. Pakistan is still hinging on that old tag of "We are born to play T20". It happened to England as well. They were calling themselves T20 specialists as they 'pioneered' it.

They not only started T20, but the entire game of Cricket originated in England. They still await a WC victory.

By now the Psychologist's house must have been stoned, effigy burned and the poor fella will have to move out of the country. It's not just the psychological help Pakistan cricketers need but enough match practice. They don't seem to understand they were involved in a game of cricket today. I still cannot understand how they could drop so many catches, misfields and the one Gul let through for four between legs was worse than midget cricket. This isn't the Pakistan team I was used to in the past. They were still ragged in the fielding department but they had some fantastic bowlers and stub born batsmen. This team seems to give up on the game well before its half way through. I don't know how to react to Younis Khan's frantic smile through out the game. He reminds me of Dinesh Karthik. Maybe he thinks that's cool??? We used to give Munaf hard time for smiling needlessly but the entire Pakistani bunch has been turned like one bar Afridi who's needlessly grumpy on his own team mates. They all seem to just be laughing and smiling through the game. Is this the effect of Psychological counseling or what?
