Raina & Rohit - Future Pillars of Team India?

Recommended Posts

Right now, I'd prefer the test team untouched. Dravid's just had a terrific series in New Zealand, so did Sachin and Laxman. Yuvraj is the only one who can changed, and I think the selectors, Dhoni, and fans do want to see him given a couple more chances, a good way to test that would be on Indian tracks vs. Murali and Mendis later this year. Perhaps if he fails then, Rohit might be given a chance.

All our test veterans are going to retire anyway within the next 2 -3 years so we dont need to force them to retire. Just let the natural process go on. There will be multiple seats created , more than enough to need roht , raina , and even more from the likes of rahane/pujara/koli /badri. By that time these people should hone their test skills in county and domestic cricket , and India A tours.

I don't want to read too much into Rohit's batting in a T20 game. Agreed he has got talent but he has been failing miserably in ODIs in the recent past. He has got a long way to go but given his talent he can succeed at the highest level quite easily if he gets his mind right. Raina is surely the future of India in all formats of the game, but Rohit ATM I am not sure.

wth is this !!...... 2 good knocks in a warmup game and Rohit is better than Raina, Sehwag!!!!... wtfishh..... yes Rohit has played good in last 2 games but how can ppl forget his misery form in last 35 matches where he played worse than Munaf Patel... Sehwagg and Raina are still miles ahead of Rohit .....

Thats the true definition of exaggeration.First check his record at which position he was batting in those 35 ODI's.His batting position was changed in every match. And only 2 good matches?Indian fans really have a short memory did you forget his performances in South Africa in 2007 WC T20 and recent IPL. And there is a say "Pooth ke Poun Paalne Me hi nazar Aa jate hain"

This is not a paki website, don't say stupid things. A lot of people come here because of the educated, well though out debates which take place here not crap like this. Make your point but please don't go OTT.

And we should drop whom exactly?
Without any doubt yuvraj singh. Btw Dravid is running 38 currently, how long do you expect him to go on? We need two replacements for Dravid and Sourav.

bro.. All i want is India to play well and win... dont care if Sachin makes 0 or Bhajji makes 140 ...eventually its all about India.... regarding Rohit, its just wierd that just till before IPL, everyone here was calling for his head and now he is Sachin-league player who is better than Sehwag and Raina... all i wanna say is that Raina and Sehwag are far better than Rohit ...

With all seriousness though, it is baffling how he can be such a underachiever with all that talent. I think he will get another couple of series to prove his worth in the team. Again, it seems like he doesn't want to fight for the runs, and I thought he'd proved this notion wrong with his knocks against England, but it was a bit shocking to see him bat against NZ. Nevertheless, with the talent he possesses, he can be a very good player if he wishes to be. It remains to be seen.

In the 90s and before we used to throw the youngsters directly into Test arena. The one day specialists most of the time failed in world cricket with few exceptions. Bevan, Jadeja, Fairbrother, Kaif (he is not even a ODI specialist), Yuvi (so far) are some of the notable failures. Dravid had a horrible start to his ODI career. Based on one day performances he should have played tests. So based on ODI failures it is unfair to ignore players for Tests. So i would like the selectors to keep their options while picking players for Tests. First class performances should be given some weightage not just one dayers/T20 performances.
