The Outsider Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 He can play a role in odis. Not guaranteed selection but I can see why pick him now and then and have him in squads. Its the test selction which was a disgrace. Where are his fan club now? You tell us: http://indiancricketfans.com/showthread.php?t=271668 As when I bemoaned his bonkers selection in tests, whole clan of fans came forward to say what a great selction and deserved(please note no one desreves or earns a chance to play for india team, you only get picked if can do the busssieness) it due to triple tons etc But, not too long back you wanted him to play tests, what changed? As being such an all rounder at the age of 22, he could even be a future test match player http://indiancricketfans.com/showpost.php?p=1645472&postcount=6
King Tendulkar Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 You tell us: http://indiancricketfans.com/showthread.php?t=271668 But, not too long back you wanted him to play tests, what changed? http://indiancricketfans.com/showpost.php?p=1645472&postcount=6 Yes I said he was good odi player. Amd my recent post is consistent with that, maybe you did not put your glasses on and so did not read the post correctly. And a while back I did not say I wanted him to play tests at all. I said he may become a test player one day. Again maybe reread the posts again or change glasses:giggle: Amazing spin on my posts, maybe a carrer in politics beckons:--D

The Outsider Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 You still think he is a good ODI player with potential to become a test cricketer?
King Tendulkar Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 You still think he is a good ODI player with potential to become a test cricketer? I think he is decent odi player. A serious option as multi deimensional. I can see why in and around squad. Not fussed that in T20 team. A test player, yes may have potential but at least 3 to 4 years away and needs to prove on A tours etc. I dont think he will make it as a test player though, never will become good enough imo. My point was as he is young may develop in to one but that is when he is 27 or 28 His recent selection for test team was a joke
VRV Singh Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 I am quite embarrassed that I sort of defended this guy. You just have to think back. Basically all his good batting in ODIs is done in a losing cause. His only good bowling contribution was skittling some idiot English batsmen. All this epitomised by the only MOTM I recall him getting being for his fielding.

diga Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 DhoniÃÔ persistence with Jadeja isnÃÕ new. In the run- up to the 2011 World Cup, the India skipper afforded plenty of chances to Jadeja, making him bowl in every possible situation as a runstopper, death bowler and an attacking option but failed to elicit any success anywhere. There was a similar case with Yusuf Pathan being persisted with despite lack of results, and he eventually won the race over Jadeja for a spot in IndiaÃÔ ultimately successful squad, but it was because of his ability to thrash the opposition with his big- hitting. Yusuf was subsequently dumped as failed experiment but Jadeja is still enjoying a good run from the selectors. Even with his batting, Jadeja is unlikely to ever make his case in this Team India, because with all the quality that the 23-year-old possesses, heÃÔ unlikely to come up the order as an attacking option ahead of Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni and Yuvraj, or by being more technically competent than Gautam Gambhir, Ajinkya Rahane or Rohit Sharma. Jadeja has played 58 ODIs at an average of 28.6, and has taken just 57 wickets in them. In the 14 T20Is heÃÔ featured in, the all-rounder has scored 74 runs at an average of 10.5 and taken just seven wickets. Yet Dhoni excluded R Ashwin for the Bangalore game because the ÅÄonditions didnÃÕ suit the spinner and included Jadeja without explaining how the conditions suited the bits-and-pieces player better. Jadeja batted at No. 8 in the game against Pakistan no position for a proper batsman proper to walk in and was introduced as the sixth bowling option, who nevertheless ended up as the most expensive bowler in IndiaÃÔ first-ever defeat to Pakistan in a Twenty20 fixture. The Saurashtra player has been a virtual bully in his own backyard, scoring 331 in Rajkot and 303 in Surat to aggregate 794 runs in five matches this season. But the more telling statistic is that he has a mere 22 runs in two games away from home.

maniac Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Jadeja is mediocre and has no business being part of LOI's as proven by his previous track record and also the fact that he has been below par in IPL and a very poor LIST A record. BUT Tell me if a player who scores 3 Triples and a few more 100's followed by loads of wickets in FC doesn't get a go in Test matches and selectors pick players on perceved tailunt what is the point of performing in FC to begin with....Doesn't help the morale of other players either....So he earned his test spot...Does he **** is a different topic altogether.

FC is the launchpad. But you will get a mediocre team if you don't take FC statistics in any context. That is to say, watching performances and noting the bowling attack a batsman faces or who a bowler dismisses. The Jogis and Badrinaths of this world will be national team stalwarts otherwise. On another note - EIGHT of Jadeja's ten highest innings in ODIs have come in defeats. The two victories were by one wicket and three runs respectively. Here is your archetypal Jadeja innings, a timely arrival to reduce the margin of defeat: http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/386534.html
The Outsider Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 2 Point is wrong...he earned his spot. Next in line Amit Mishra and the number 9 batsmen from Haryana as specialist batsmen? :hmmm:
maniac Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Next in line Amit Mishra and the number 9 batsmen from Haryana as specialist batsmen? :hmmm: Did they score 3 Triples across 2-3 seasons along with few more impressive scores, taking loads of wickets in the process ? I am not saying Jadeja is the greatest thing since slice bread but if a performance like that cannot get you your test cap or earn selection than don't know what else can. PS:I have always and will always say he is below par for international cricket but it's unfair to think he hasn't earned his spot through consistent domestic performances.

No matter how bad the attack is 3 300's is a special feat and not the same as having a couple of good seasons.
The Outsider Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Yaar, triple hundreds show one thing - that the batsman has the ability to play long innings. When you are selecting a batsman for international cricket there are a lot of other boxes which need to be checked. Tendulkar till date does not have a triple hundred in FC cricket and got his first FC double 10 years after he debuted for India, by which time he was already acknowledged as an all time great.

Totally agree....I find it total bs that he somehow sneaked in yet again in the T20 and ODI squads. but let's take another player who has had a great division of opinion among fans-Rohit Sharma.....he has been mediocre in the LOI formats but most fans still think he will come good at the test level without reading too much into his LOI performance...I have been a advocate of this too but I find it Hypocritical that if we apply this theory to Rohit then why not to Jadeja? Doesnt he have FC performances to back up his claim? Even before Shane Warne's endorsment-which I dont take too seriously,Jadeja was talked about as a talent to watch out for as well. Also 3 triple hundreds are no fluke...as you said and does give a glimpse of a batsman's ability to play long innings and at the same time atleast some amount of stroke playing ability. Now again I am not bigging up Jadeja here, but tbf to the selectors the slot that opened up was for No 6-No7 and the fact that he was among the wkts too, might have pushed him ahead of other viable contenders for this spot. Just like Rohit and some of the other perceived talents we have had, there is always a lingering question as what if the player is playing in the wrong format? All these have in their own way justified Jadeja's inclusion in the squad....again Is he good enough? or is he better than a certain x player? are different topics altogether. I personally think Jadeja from his perspective has done everything right in domestics to be in the selectors scheme of things...obviousy there are the Dhoni love and Rhiti Sports conspiracy theories which I have started to buy slowly to a certain extent but pinning all the blame on those theories for his inclusion in TESTS is wrong.
