This idea is mainly for multi national tournaments, currently as was evident in the IPL and T20 superselector competitions, most of the members pick a team that is more or less the same. To make picking the team more challenging, it is possible to have a weight (based on their track record, average, strike rate and current form, easier way for calculating the weight is to rely on ICC Rankings) for each player for example lets take the Indian team MS Dhoni - 7/10 G Gambhir - 7/10 V Sehwag - 8/10 Y Singh - 9/10 Y Pathan-6/10 I Pathan - 6/10 R Sharma - 5/10 S Raina - 7/10 H Singh - 6/10 P Ojha - 3/10 R Jadeja - 3/10 Z Khan - 6/10 I Sharma - 6/10 P Kumar- 4/10 Once the weight is decided, there could be a rule that the combined weight of a team should not cross 98 (I assumed the average rating of a player is close to 7). This will lead to more varied teams and force users to be more creative. A second idea is to let users choose a 16 person team, and field a playing 11 everyday out of this 16 players. No substitutions(excpet injuries) are allowed but users can trade amongst themselves just like fantasy football. Just wanted to create a separate thread so that more users can chime in, mods can merge later.

i like this weight idea.i also want changes to incur more points.all the top teams in the SS make heavy changes every day and we are left behind:((.
Thats true, I can't be bothered to go in daily and make changes. But you have to credit these people, they use good tactics to gain points. If they make poor changes they look points on substitution and don't gain or possibly even lose points if their players don't perform

^ I did not make many changes this time - with 20 points it's not really worth it. Just the obvious substitutions like someone is in really good form, some team got knocked out etc. For series with fewer matches, substitution costs are obviously higher. In the 30-50 range and then making regular changes does not help at all.

ahhh.. I dont bother doing daily changes anymore.. it takes up lot of time... but now that I see people are making rediculous amount of ICF $$$, I am pondering my decision.. On topic though, its hard to come up with weigts and all.. for example, how you gonna weigh the debutant... ?? but never under-estimate varun's genius..

Somebody had suggested the weights idea a couple of years back when I made the SS. There are a few things that I had mentioned then which might or might not be still valid today. 1. It is complicated to assign and adjust weights for players dynamically. I hardly do any manual work for managing the SS, and I would like to keep it that way. 2. I want to keep the SS an easier user experience for entry-level users as well. Adding a cap based on arbitrarily assigned "weights" might seem like another cool thing for the nuanced SS user, but might drive away a lot of newbies. 3. The incentive for having variety in the teams, and making different teams is already there. A user can check to see how many times a player has been picked, and there is an inherent incentive for picking players that others haven't picked. If your gamble pays off, you can leave your competition behind.

This is probably the most important thing for me. Not saying the current format cannot be tweaked around with - for example I think our T20 calculations disadvantage bowlers a bit, maidens in T20 should get more points and there are a few more things to add and discuss. Even the dynamical assignment of weights should not be too difficult to incorporate if we keep it based on averages/SRs we pull off from cricinfo once we come up with a rough guideline. But for someone just starting off would it be interesting enough to go through the weights of 100 players(in case of big tournaments like WC/IPL) to come up with that perfect team? I like the simplicity of it though feel that some point assignments can be tweaked around a bit. Or add something simple - like a trump card - something which does not really require the user to spend half an hour before submitting a team.

i would like a Captain to be selected by users just like ESPN's SS.the captain's point get doubled
Yea that can add variety and I think it won't be much of a burden for Varun to make changes.
