No where close to dual citizenship except for the confusion in the name. Maggot is right' date=' and Kumble Rocks/Cricketicz have mentioned it in the past too.[b'] GoI should implement dual nationality - they said they will, but never did it. I hope they do, I'm the only member of my family who doesn't have an Indian passport. Having to wait in line with the Bangladeshis while the rest of my family go straight through at NSCB Airport is insulting.

You will have full privileges when you are back in India. OCI is *not* dual citizenship - it is technically a Visa - if you read the Indian Govt website it will say so - (though a longterm visa), so theoretically Indian govt can decide to change rules, revoke it etc. Citizenship cannot be easily revoked. If you opt for US Citizenship, then OCI is like lifelong visa, and PIO is for 15 years, and then you have to renew. You can still settle in India, though a few privileges you wont have - if you dont care, then its ok and reasonably good.
Aditi Posted June 24, 2009 Author Posted June 24, 2009 So I actually got an email reply from the Consulate at SF this morning and they said it will take 21 working days from the time I mail my application till I get my passport with OCI Stamp, whereas PIO will take 20 working days if I apply by mail or in person. They request that you send your original US Passport with the application to save time. I am planning to send the following documents: • Two copies of Part A (ONLINE) and Part B • 5 - (2" X 2") - size photographs • Current US Passport in original. Send a Self Addressed Stamped USPS Express Mail Envelope for Returning Documents of $16.50 with the OCI Application itself. • Two self-attested photocopies of the first and last pages of the current US/ foreign passport for determining present citizenship of applicant (s). To self-attest, just write "Certified to be true copy of the original", sign & print your name. • Two photocopies of the birth certificate of US/foreign born children. This should be attested by either of the parent. • Proof of previous nationality (Parents/grandparents origin, in my case)

These are the CGI SF requirements, Vancouver may have different requirements: * Two copies of Part A and Part B * Two - (2" X 2") - size photographs * Current US/ foreign Passport in original * Two self-attested photocopies of the first and last pages of the current US/ foreign passport for determining present citizenship of applicant (s). * Two photocopies of the birth certificate of US/foreign born children. This should be attested by either of the parent. * Last Indian Passport held in original * Two self-attested photocopies of the first two and last two pages of the Indian passport. In the event, the Indian passport is not available, we require the following: * Copy of domicile certificate, or any photo ID issued by the Government of India or of a State of India such as: Voter ID, or * Copy of Indian Birth Certificate, and * Copy of Indian Educational certificates, and * Copy of Naturalization certificate issued by the country of current nationality of the applicant, and * Affidavit IMPORTANT IF YOUR NAME IN YOUR US PASSPORT IS DIFFERENT FROM THE ONE IN THE INDIAN PASSPORT, YOU ARE REQUIRED TO ADVERTISE CHANGE OF NAME IN A NEWSPAPER IN YOUR LOCALITY IN USA, AND IN INDIA. COMPLETE AND NOTARIZE THE CHANGE OF NAME AFFIDAVIT. What is not valid as proof of Indian Nationality: * Indian bank statements; Indian cellphone provider statements; Indian lease agreements; Indian credit card statements, etc * A Self Addressed Stamped USPS Express Mail Envelop for Returning Documents. Please record with you the USPS tracking number for tracking documents when mailed by the Consulate.

The morons who made the OCI stamped it in the wrong passports. They switched it. They stamped the X OCI in Y and Y in X. I also know another person who this happened to.

Desi Cartman Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 I have an OCI and they do put a sticker in your passport and also give u an Indian passport like book. Call Indian embassy in Canberra , they are very helpful. From what I remember , it took less than 2 months but I got it 2 years ago so I dont remember how long they are taking now.

I was flying out of SFO a few years back and the night before my flight noticed my passport had expired. My flight was around 8 in the evening the next day. I went to the San Francisco consulate the next morning and they renewed my passport in a couple of hours and did not even charge the extra fee they were entitled to for next day processing(that's the earliest official processing available). The guy I interacted with was a gem of a person.

In reality they just need 1 pic...they take extra 2 pics in case they damage that 1 pic....I went there with 3 pics but they returned me 2 of pics back... but ya, just for the safety take all 3 pics
