The Outsider Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Its my pet peeve and some others here. You might be understanding with it but i am not. Even if 1 in 5 Indian cannot speak hindi, i would expect them to talk to me in English, esp since i am talking about experiences in US and not in India. Everyone makes generalizations. Generalizations help make things easier and less complex at times, specially as in this case it is based on a decent majority. I am not talking about something which 5% of a population does and generalize that to the entire set. I don't see how there is any consistency in your thinking when you are happy to generalize and say all Pakistanis support madrassas and terrorism, but on a benign topic as someone talking to you in Hindi you get peeved. It basically says I reserve the right to treat other people with contempt based on my whims and no matter which side of the fence they are on. Nothing wrong with it I guess, it's your prerogative. It's also known as hypocrisy. How about someone who is Spanish only by ethnicity and is spoken to in Spanish in US by almost every Spanish person he meets? I don't see why he should get peeved. When majority of people of Spanish ethinicity do indeed speak Spanish, it's natural another Spanish speaking guy to start a conversation like that.

Ram Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 I speak from my personal experiences in school and college. You disagreeing with it makes no difference to me. You making up another fabricated justification for your flawed claim does not make any difference to the fact that your claim itself was fabricated.

I’ve heard people say anyone south of the Vindhyas is a South Indian, which makes sense because its bang in the central part of India. But, anyone South of Mahararshtra?! That is hilarious! :rotfl:
