Chandan Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 Chandan - no matter what you think, I dont require for these cricketers to prove poor old me right or wrong. :) And if you happen to believe that 2 innings are enough to judge a player by, then more power to you. I will just politely disagree and move on. For the record though, Kohli is a good player. However I rate the other two as having better temperaments. Not just these two innings. I have seen him struggle against quality pace attack almost everytime that I saw him bat. That is why I was quite doubtful if he would ever receive a chance in the test. But he did and once again proved that facing quality pace bowling is just too much for him. Many here disagreed with me when I said how his scoring range was so limited against such bowlers. I was praying for his success. But alas!

Chandan - I do not know exactly how many matches you have seen Badri play live. But all I can say is that I have observed this guy from close quarters. As in net sessions and actual matches in and around Chennai. Including sessions where bowlers bowl from 18 yards to increase pace etc. I have also seen this guy face up against the likes of Agarkar, Munaf, Dhawal Kulkarni, Vinay Kumar etc. and score heavily. And yes, he can play pace and he actually has a solid technique. I have no hesitation in again mentioning that he is a good player who has bided his time for quite a while before being picked to play for India. If he does get about 50% of the chances that Yuvraj got, then I do believe we will all find out what he is made of. Lastly scoring rate is not a criteria to judge a Test match player on. As I am sure you understand.
teacup Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 Most batsmen do look ugly when they get beaten by reverse swing. I guess no one watched the videos showing VVS getting bowled through the gates n number of times. I am sure Badri will get another chance, whether people here would like it or not is irrelavant. Nobody is going to be dumped after 2 tests, especially with a fighting 50 to show for.

Dravid and Badri were batting together. Dravid was playing Ishant with ridiculous ease. While Badri was absolutely clueless more clueless than a tailender against him. He kept on playing down the wrong line more than a dozen times. Ball somehow missed the stumps every time. Eventually Ishant put him out of misery. He has a serious weakness against incoming delivery. If it comes at pace he is even more clueless. Fact that he is late on his strokes tell you how limited he is as a player. I was a huge Badri fan. Infact i was the one who put up a video on Badri on Youtube. But i am utterly convinced now that he doesn't belong at this level. You don't need 15 tests to prove he is crap. I stick my neck out and say he will not have a long Test career. I am happy to be proven wrong. I rate Dinesh Karthik ahead of him.

thevortex Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 By the way, YoMahesh - a young and promising bowler as of last season - mainly brings the ball into the batsman. And he used to be able to hit the late 130s as far as pace is concerned. I have seen Badri handle him with ease. Also I have seen Badri handle Agarkar too with ease. And one can say many things about Agarkar - but he is not slow.

teacup Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 But they are hardly in the same league as the ones he'll face in the Int'l stage' date='are they?[/quote'] I don't think there is any bowler in the world at the moment who can be compared to Dale Steyn, is there? He was the only bowler who made Badri look ordinary in this series and that too just in the last inning. When he got out to Steyn in the last match, caught at short mid-wicket, he had scored a half century and never really struggled against him in that inning. For those who think that inning was a fluke by pointing out that most of his runs came from the third man region strangely fail to notice that they came off controlled nudges, played by opening the face of the bat. You do need a good technique to play those nudges along the ground.
teacup Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 Isn't the T20 World Cup in May? You're right. The SL tests start in July.
atul Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 after watching his 3 innings, Its in the mind, some how he is carrying lot of chips not able to got his chances and now he want to show every one they were wrong .. he need to get rid of this and just play natural game..

maaki Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 Saw Abhishek Nayars Ranji 100 against Delhi i think and he is a far better batsmen than Kohli , Badri, Vijay , Karthik..All the 4 batsmen cannot handle pace.. The indian selectors need to move beyond these garbage home growers..
Fontaine Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 Yes Badri looked foolish against Steyn but come on let's not be too harsh. That ball was reversing in and for a new batsmen it's very difficult to handle that kind of late swing when he's new at the crease. Most of our bastmen also looked clueless against Steyn when he was bowling with that kind of late swing in the 1st test match. That being said at least Karthik has shown that he can negotiate swing. As an opener in the England tour he did very well getting a good front foot forward early to try and negate that early swing and looked better than Jaffer at times as the opener.

Zap_Brannigan Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 3 innings and he is done, is he........I wish this was true for many players. Then we wouldn't have to hear about nohit nofit sharma, kholi etc.. Badri has been the best domestic batsman that never got to International team for 9 years. He plays against all the bowlers that eventually has made it to the Indian team , the same bowlers Grame Smith, Ponting, Hussey faces. If we cannot trust our domestic system, then why even bother ?
