You are right. In strict terms, getting the direction of the Qiblah is a prerequisite for the prayers to be accepted. Depending on one interpretation; if the mistake of the person is genuine due to his/her confusion or miscalculation or poor awareness & geographic sense, then the prayers may still be valid/accepted. Even if you get the approx direction right, it should suffice. But what you see in that pic, as DK said, is giving away direction for symmetry. That makes the prayer invalid for most of the team. Unless that team is very close to Mecca, there is no chance that their positioning is correct. Where was that pic taken?
