See below: Stats But post 1998 and leading upto the 2008 CB series ( last finals he played before that as you correctly pointed out was in 2004) 14 finals : Avg 25.83. - this is too long a period and too many a game to just rubbish it off as no one succeeds always..

Nice effort. The first " bura daur" of Jaya that you show is 91-97 - where all bar one year he was batting lower down, in the side as a bowler who could pinch hit - opening the innings only in the mid 90's - Winning player of the 96 World Cup. The way the destructive levels of Gilchrist and Jaya are( and even our own Viru) - you cannot even begin to compare them to a classical orthodox batsman like SRT in terms of match winning innings. If you look at the string of " failures " of these 2 where they have averaged 25 -30odd in finals - the innings where they have scored BIG ( even a 50-60) they have scored it at a ultra destructive strike rate that has set their team up. The 3-4 innings in the 10-12 " failures" have been 50's and 60's scored at strikes rate ranging from 130-180. Match winning in short. SRT in the stat that I posted, plays ultra conservatively concious of final pressure his strike rate only 70 against a career strike rate of 86, an avg of 25 against a career avg of 44. Pontings a bit of a surprise - but he played an innings of a lifetime in the biggest game there can be - WC finals. ANd even inbetween what you show there is a match winning 120+.

Rather than me having " shame" - you should perhaps be dissapointed to know that you are not even mature enough to understand that different fans have different expectations - some fans are more demanding than others . As a fan,I have every right to like/dislike , rate / not rate a player, express my feelings/frustrations on our players - thats what forums are for, FYI. Jacques Kallis for example overall as an allrounder has numbers to die for - even in pure batting terms his average is a replica of SRT in both ODIS and Tests - add to that he has nearly 500 international wickets at an avg of 31 . Yet - I hardly fear him as a player when we play Saffies - he'll play those stable knocks at a good frequency but hardly expected to single handedly take apart an opposition in a big match. Ditto SRT - atleast the SRT post 1998. ( barring the odd destructive knock like the 98 against Pak in WC 2003) . ANywayz peace out. Lets cut this here.

How about matches in which we are almost kicked out of the trny unless we reached the target in reduced overs? Sachin has done that many times. How about WC? Is that pressure situation ? Top scored in 96 and 03 WC including the SF. Did well in 99 WC. Our idiotic team lost against Zim when he wasn't there. He flunked in 07 in the only game that mattered. So he probably has one of the best records in the WC. Just because the others couldn't pull the weight when he failed, doesnt mean Sachin is crap.
