Photo: Vivek Bendre The incident occurred around 11:30 pm last night when Singh along with his friend was standing outside a shop selling 'kebabs' here. Police said a man got out of the car and demanded that he be served kebabs. When the shopkeeper Shahnawaz asked him to wait, he started abusing him. Another man whose face was covered then came out of the same car and started firing in which 18-year-old Singh and the shopkeeper were killed, police said. Residents of the area rushed the seriously injured Gagandeep and Shahnawaz to a hospital where they were declared brought dead. Another man identified as Sharif was injured in the incident. Police suspect some old enmity was the reason behind the attack. Seven empty shells were recovered from the spot, SP City, Prabal Pratap Singh said. Singh represented India in an under-19 series in Australia six months ago.
Brainfade Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 Sad ... reminds me of Dhruv Pandove, whose budding career was nipped by a car accident.

Chandan Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 didnt he played for :kxip: for a few games in IPL season one.. is he that gagandeep singh?? but a very sad news that a young talented boy is dead :(( No he is not that Gagandeep Singh. This one was a leggie who represented India in U-19 matches and even went to Australia with the U-19 team where Indian team won the youth ODI series 2-1 and drew the youth test series 1-1. We had a good discussion on that tour here on ICF. The tournament was played in April this year. This fellow was not even 19 yrs old. You can search for that thread on cricket talk forum, if you are interested in knowing more about it.
Aaku Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 He's merey friend ka cousin. He was just telling me bout him like a week back, and this news came along. Its really freaking me out,how Akshay said 'You ll see him in the team real soon' , and seeing him dead news mein. Rest In Peace Gagan.
ViruRulez Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 RIP :(( But there is some confusion in the two reports above. It seems clear that he was shot in crossfire. But in one report he is mentioned to be with the hotel owner while in the other news report it is mentioned he was at a "kebab" shop. I dont know which one is true but in reporters ko reporter kisne reporters bana diya hai. Yahan bhi kisine masala laga diya hai report me and either the kebab shop or the hotel episode is false. Anyways Meerut is one of India's biggest criminal hubs and teams should not be sent to places where safety is compromised. :((
coffee_rules Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 Talking about being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Very sad to hear. RIP. Damn, it can happen to anybody.
mhr123 Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 i remember one of my neighbour who was in his teens was attending his daily tutions , suddenly firing started taking talking place between police and some criminal gangs... he was caught amids the firing , he took shelter inside a drain. a gang member saw him and shot him ... luckily it hit his right leg and but he survived. it happened in 1996 , till today he cant walk properly without crunches... :((
