Kallis as good an all rounder there has ever been apart from Sobers

Kallis is the most underated cricketer ever. Frankly he is one of the greatest players ever and can easily be classed as 2nd best all ronder ever. The hype machine has never attached itsef to him but he is a total SUPERSTAR, as todays game once again shows. No doubts he as good as Dev, Botham, Khan and co. Yes they were bolwing all rounders while he is a batting all ronder. But when you weigh it up he will contribute just as much as them. The guy is a legend and deserves far more recognition then he does.

can soemone who has seen sobers play explain to me why he is considered better than kallis?.I think kallis is the best all-rounder ever.
Sobers was the epitomie of all rounder. Awesome bat, explosive and elegant like Yuvraj! Fielder like a Rhodes. Pacer like a Z Khan. And finger spinner like a Vettori and a wrist spinner as well. Genuinley would be picked in windies side on anyone of the above. THE BEST

Damn!! In my lifetime from the players I've seen Kallis is the greatest all-rounder without doubt.

flamy, is that news to you? :hmmm: KT, I had the chance to watch extended highlights of Sobers' legendary 254 against Lillee and co. Absolutely breathtaking innings. I would not compare him to Yuvraj. More to Lara.

True. He was better then Yuvraj, just comapring the flamboyant/elegant/power. Yes like a lara but more brutal.

BTW KT, I believe that if Sobers had not been able to bowl and was simply a batsman - he would have been regarded as an equal to BCL at the very least and quite possibly even superior. His all-round achievements are such that most people don't pay due respects to his batsmanship.

Yes just as a batsman he would make an all time 11! The tag of greatest all rounder(although not a bad tag to have:winky:) bizzarley meant his batting does not get hyped! Sobers also used to produce world class performances while being out all night G Best style, which for me adds to his brilliance!:--D Kallis meanwhile gets no hype. It because of his boring persona. He is never in controversey, never does anything silly and is clinically efficient when playing cricket, without the pleasing to the eye flourishes of other lesser players. This no thrills style but of course devestaingly effective means no hype. I mean Flintoff is talked of as the great all rounder in last few years and he is not fit to clean Kallis' shoes! Kallis is as good and possibly better then Dev, Khan, Botham and co. And needs to be talked about in same conversations, which is something that never happens!

Botham was an amazing player though. He really underachieved as a batsman and could have been so much more. Imran I consider overrated and an egotistical blowhard. A wonderful bowler in his good years, other times selfish and a quite overrated batsman. One of the greatest innings I have seen on tape is his 118 at Old Trafford in 1981. I saw that Wisden praised it to the heavens and that he raved about it in his autobiography, thought it was just hype - but then I watched a tape of that knock and it blew my mind. Some amazing power and precision to his shots, and hooking Lillee off his eyebrows for six repeatedly... :hail:... just WOW! For style he was amazing, but had a fraction of Kallis' performance consistency and reliability. Kallis like Sobers would rank among the very best batsmen of this generation along with Ponting, Lara and co. (I do not rank Tendulkar in there - I consider him in a separate class apart from them.). And at the same time he is a superb and much underrated bowler.

I think for some reason all rounders are always identified by their ability to dominate bowling and ability to run through sides, since the days of Keith Miller, Alan Davidson, Richie Benaud. 10 wicket hauls, 5 wicket haul, strike rate etc etc. Look at Kapil Dev. He has a test match strike rate of 80 i think. On his day he could run through sides singlehandedly. That is why Kallis is not exactly the "ULTIMATE ALL ROUNDER".

Kallis is no doubt the best all rounder since 90s but comparing him to Kapil & Imran is OTT. His bowling is not good enough and would have never made into test side on his bowling alone.

That is funny Mr wicket because you see I too think that Botham was an amazing player though. He really underachieved as a batsman and could have been so much more. Imran I consider one of the top 3 allrounders.. A wonderful bowler in his good years, other times awe inspiring and a quite devestating batsman.

Its amazing actually. Ive only looked at his Bowling record now for the first time 254 wickets in test cricket. Thats LOADS. He's obviously been one of the best batsmen in the world in recent years and on all time great Saffie on his batting alone. Ave of 54 suggests that much But 254 wickets @ 31 !! Blimey. Sobers like Kallis is a batting a.r yes, that 254 Bradman called the best innings he had seen in Aus. Y know he came to my school here in Leicester and I didnt get a chance to see him speak because I wasnt in the cricket team. ARGH. Im sure I knew far more about him and appreciated it more than any of the 1st and 2nd XI retards who did see him Are Bothams figures a bit inflated by him bowling at Packer depleted teams? Though that 81 series was agasint a full strength side Imran was a better bowler though wasnt he? And on the subject of underrated all rounders- Dan Vettori... But I shouldnt hijack this thread. kallis= legend

You must be joking. Kapil was a hard hitting batsman with a lot of flair but routinely underachieved (partly because of his bowling focus for so long), and Imran was massively overrated and not in the vaunted league you make him out to be.
